This is from the NYMF site:

"All in, your production may cost you anywhere from $25,000 to $75,000, depending on the size of your cast, your production values, and your show’s specific production needs."

That's on this page:  http://www.nymf.org/get-involved/submit-show/producing-nymf

So I guess it has gone away from any low-budget description.

There was that roller skating show in our NYMF year that went on its own contract, wasn't there?

Yep.  And should not have been allowed to - either it's a level playing field or fold up and go home.

As it turned out, Kay needed some chicken soup, so we had our meeting at Jerry's Deli - I, of course, had my ubiquitous chicken Caesar salad.  So, I'll try the sandwich thing later.

Here's the NYMF photo taken yesterday..  i'm far left with Josh, the reed player.  I think the band and I should have been included in the photo, but we weren't asked.

Nice picture, but the band should always be included in the pictures!

Lost an acquaintance to lung cancer yesterday. She was one of those people who meant well but could be occasionally irritating without realizing it. (Like me, I'm sure.) She could also be charming and funny and driven. After getting a divorce, Alex decided to go to culinary school and did quite well, but the first diagnosis was just as she was finishing up.

She leaves behind two children in their teens. I just feel really sorry for her family.

My condolences, John. :(

Home safe and sound from the grantwriters' meeting.  I'm pre-baking pizza crusts for our dinner.

I am well and truly TICKED OFF. I seldom get angry, but I am now.

Here's the background:
A couple months ago the people who lived in one of the other apartments in my building moved out. They'd lived there for 32 YEARS. The manager told me that apart from a few plumbing issues, nothing had been done to the apartment during that time, i.e., no repainting, no new carpeting, no carpet cleaning, nada. Instead of thanking their lucky stars that they got off so cheaply, the building management is upset because two of the stove's burners weren't working and the tenants had never mentioned it.

So now they say that they will inspect all the apartments every 3-4 months. We, the tenants, will be given 48 hours notice, by law. No consideration is being given in case we have something else to do that day or, like me, we are incensed by the violation of our privacy. Included in in the inspection list is "general cleanliness." Now this is from the same people who allowed the young couple next door to have late-night parties a couple times a week for TWO YEARS, while all of us complained repeatedly. And the same management team that neglected the roof. My apartment alone has THREE areas of damaged plaster, one serious, due to roof leaks. Suddenly they're concerned about repairs. WHAT??

I am livid. I will be calling the Powers That Be in LA government to try to learn what my options are. I'm sure they have the right to inspect, but I find this 3-4 month schedule intrusive and excessive. Did Larry's disrespectful property manager suddenly come to LA?  They seem to be channeling her.

I'm trying to think of a negotiating strategy, as I'd rather not have an ugly confrontation. They are so cheap that I'm surprised they are willing to pay the handyman who will be on the inspection team--or do the repairs.

A question for BK:
Where do you stand legally by adding lyrics to a copyrighted song? Can it only be performed at the Kritzerland shows? Could you record it?

If I were to record the Mancini songs I'd have to get permission - that family, now that Hank is gone, is, as happens too frequently, pretty ridiculous in their control issues.  I have no problems doing it for the Kritzerland show - it's a one-off.  Then I'll be sending the lyrics to them and will give them the option of publishing them.  I don't even care about royalties - I just love the tunes and the lyrics are really good.

Had an intense and really productive work session with Robert and Alby.   His ideas were too unwieldy and unfocused to make a proper show, so we just sang through all the material - we got rid of at least six songs right away, and then because those were gone I finally started to see how to make sense of what we had, which was, at that point, eleven songs.  In fact, right away I figured out the first four songs, order-wise.  He had an idea for a put-together but it was all wonky and awkward, so I completely rearranged it top to bottom in exactly five minutes - I did the same with a couple of other songs, as well.  Then I made three song suggestions, which he loved, and now we have an act - I have to figure out the rest of the show order, then he'll create the patter, which I'll then finesse.
