For all those who have pets and who live where the eclipse will happen keep them indoors as they can damage their eyesight just as humans can do if they look at it.

Good point.

Since it's a quiet morning, I'll sneak this in for Eclipse Monday:  (adapted from the NY Times' New York Today article on dealing with seeing the eclipse in NYC)

tune of “That’s Amore”

When the moon slips and dips
To a solar eclipse -
That's our Monday!
At a quarter to three
There’ll be something to see –
That's our Monday!

So get set, read it on the net, you will be upset
If the great moment passes
So let’s meet, see you on the street, but I must repeat
You should wear special glasses

When the moon blocks the sun
Such excitement and fun –
That's our Monday!
You should take a long lunch
Tell your boss thanks a bunch when he says:

“You can go, it’s okay
You can go out and play just this one day
Mind the light, it’s all right, but please work late tonight”
That's our Monday!

I really enjoyed this, Fred.

Well, I've had two very productive phone calls this morning and the Ohio trip is on.  My brother Randy is lending me some money to get through my waiting on an invoice to be paid, the major reason I am currently flat.  My other problem was that I simply cannot afford at this time the $600+ car rental, and both Randy and our DR Ginny have volunteered to be my chauffeurs for my visit.  This is a huge relief.  Gasoline I can afford.

So look out, Ohio!

I'm really glad you got things worked our and the trip is on! Thanks to DB Randy and DR Ginny!

For almost two days now I can't see photos on Facebook - just white boxes - via Safari.  Never been a problem ever - I wrote them to no response, sent a screen capture, nothing.  Twice I've gone via Safari and the photos are back, but mostly they're gone.  Via Chrome, which I hate, I can see it all fine.  Anyone know what gives?

Your Facebook stared too long at the eclipse?

This is great.  When I fly to L.A. with Keith we rent a car.  I no longer do so when I go alone.  Friends generously drive me and I take taxis for short distances.  In the future that will likely be Uber or Lyft.  Even with a taxi between the airport the cost is less than renting a car.  I stopped driving in the city because of my shoulder and admit it is much nicer.

I prefer that approach, too. When I used to travel on business a rental car was always offered, but in many cases it wasn't needed. I'd try to swap the car for better accommodation, but my managers didn't always go for it, even though it'd save them money.

A cereal-box eclipse viewer? My education has apparently been deficient.

Today at work, someone actually had made a cereal box viewer!  It was a little blurry, but it worked.  AND someone else brought a colander, which worked a little better.  The best improvised eclipse viewer was, believe it or not, a saltine cracker!  The images were small, but very distinct on the ground! ;D

Thanks!  I didn't come up with the idea, but I'm glad it worked.

And how is your phone feeling? No retinal damage?

Wow this chemo is really kicking my b-u-t-t.......very weak and tired.....but I have confidence that it's working.....I MUST!

Sorry to hear that. Have any of your doctors talked to you about ways to help you mitigate the side effects and rebuild your immune system?

Vibes it improves soon.

Chemo is very hard on the body be good to yourself Jack, take it easy and accept all offers of help.  When friends say "let me know if you need anything"  Let them know when you need anything

So far I have only been on the outside looking in and those going through chemo.  It is difficult to know what to do to help and it helps to have direct requests.

People often offer help in a general way, but one wonders if they mean it. I find that saying,"Can I go to the store for you?", particularly if they're going anyway, is better than, "Let me know if there's anything I can do." I think that most of us are reluctant to ask for help--I certainly am. Letting people know what you're able to help with--specifics--makes the offer sound realistic rather than just polite. Assuming that you mean it.

The insurance vibes, along with an agent who really went to bat for us, worked.  Our agent keep going higher in the chain of command until he/we received the response we wanted.

Glad to hear that your agent is playing an active role and is getting the desired results. It doesn't seem like it should have been necessary, though. I guess that's why insurance companies are so rich.

Oh, cereals.

I don't recall any of the sugary cereals being around when I was little. I liked Cherrios, Rice Chex, shredded wheat (my dad's favorite), Rice Krispies.

I later LOVED granola.

It wasn't a clear cut choice which was why he had to go to bat for us.
