I've been re-reading Sir Peter Hall's Diaries with much more appreciation than I had when I first read them.  Some things still irritate me, like his unkind remarks about the scores for A Little Night Music and Sweeney Todd while he chooses to direct Via Galactica, but I find the politics of dealing with friends/rivals, critics, actors, playwrights, etc. really interesting and continue to wonder at his stamina.  I've just ordered his autobiography.

Oh my, all of that sounds interesting.

His wife soprano/mezzo-soprano Maria Ewing was a schoolmate, so I got to accompany her in various and sundry little things including a few voice lessons with Eleanor Steber.

I have a private recording or two of her singing with Levine and the student orchestra.  Lulu Suite for one, maybe something else.

Oh well, ladies and germs, it's just about time for me to make a run to Costco (what? -- do I think I'm BK all of a sudden?) and then get ready for the all-afternoon & evening rehearsal.

I have a possible new 21st century pet peeve:

when a theater turns down your play for a festival, and then proceeds to put your email address on the mailing list trying to sell you a ticket to come to the festival, emails which tell you all about the fabulous plays they DID choose over your own!  :)

Or like when you enter a photo in the state fair and get rejected in the first round and they keep sending you emails.

Skip is doing his first show ever at the elegant Feinsteins/54 Below at the far-away date of Monday, Feb. 12, the 9:30 pm show.  With a lot of special guests that he's not supposed to talk about on public forums until closer to the date.  I'll drop some of the names as soon as I'm allowed to do so.  Julie Miller is producing the show.

(The last cabaret appearance he made was 25 years ago!)

Here's the link to the page about his show and some quotes.

The story I mentioned to Bruce yesterday, the one where his comment had Keith & I laughing.

DR CHAS SMITH I remember TW3 well.....I don't think it lasted even 13 weeks around these here parts....but I think it's the first time I saw David Frost....and the girl singer was very good...Nancy Ames....

I picked a cucumber today that was 12.5 inches long. Naturally the size jokes have started.

Just because there are people on Facebook (see Jane's comment about my comment) who think this is real - it's not.  It's a "satire" website - not funny, mind you, but "satire" nonetheless.

This is actually getting funny, in the way that the "Book of Job" was funny,  :)  They just sent yet a third email inviting me to buy tickets to the festival I was not accepted for!!!

Newer update:  Now I got the fourth email.  :)
