We also had a funeral at 1030 for a longtime church member that we both wNted to attend so we agreed to split the service she attended the first half and I the second half

Ray was 88 years old and has been one of the ushers at the 9 am service every Sunday for probably the last 50 years ...although he had been fighting cancer he was still there every Sunday, in fact he was there the last Sunday I was at church before we wNt on vacation , Labor weekend...

The church was packed ....it won't seem the same tomorrow without Ray handing me a bulletin with his usual greeting "how are you today  young lady?"   The same greeting every Sunday since I was  9 years old

I feel so sorry for his "lady friend "... She is also a long time member of the church... They both lost their spouses more than 20 years ago from cancer and became close at a church run grief  group ...they never married as it would have meant the loss of her widows benefits  from her deceased husbands pension and health program but we all viewed them as a married couple.   I've known her foreve too, her son and I are the Sam age and we're friends in Luther League though we lost touch after high school graduation when he went away to college

Funnily enough when the Vixter was in middle school his wife was her home ec teacher ...

But I digress

After I was relieved at 130 I set up the church  for Saturday night service and handed home for lunch with Vixdad

Back from a nice second performance, which comes with a nice story.

(I know I'm interrupting vixmom's story with this story, so I'll just put it here for your reading pleasure and show myself out.)

An older couple was talking with people afterward.  Turned out it's their 50th wedding anniversary (I don't know if they meant today, exactly).  It's the show's 50th anniversary.  It's the theater's 50th anniversary.  Anyway, they went to NYC on their honeymoon and saw the show with Mary Martin and Robert Preston, and that experience stayed with them through the years.  This year the wife did a little digging to find out who would be mounting I Do! I Do!  She chose ours and somehow got her husband up here from North Carolina on some pretext -- and wasn't he surprised when they walked into a little theater tonight and saw their honeymoon show for the first time since.

We ended up at a Panera where I had the 1/2 and 1/2 :  a cup of autum squash soup and 1/2 sandwich of roasted turkey with cheddar on cranberry whole wheat bread

The soup was great the sandwich was skimpy ...

It was not our usual Panera I hope to have a heartier sandwich at our usual place.

I've liked a couple of things I've had at Panera, but I know what you mean about the occasional thing being skimpy.

Vixdad had the turkey chili in a bread bowl and also received a skimpier portion than usual

Mine always are. But I spread them out over a gazillion posts and they just seem longer

Speaking oif anniversaries Vixdad and I will be celebrating our 30th next month

I realize that is just a drop in the bucket to the likes  of Jane and Keith who have been married since preschool

But one of the perks of suddenly reroute for our holiday was that we ended up in the Poconos which is where we spent our (short) honeymoon

Vixdad's family members traveled respectively from England and Canada and arrived a week prior to our wedding and didnt leave until the Tuesday after and since w curd only each take 2 weeks vacation time and since Vixdad was changing his work visa fir a green card and couldn't leave the US we opted for the "Honeymoon Capital of the World" as it then billed itself

We stayed in one of those champagne tower suites...some may say it was cheesy or hokey.  But there is a lot to be said for a secluded suite in the Pocono mountains  in October when fall foliage is at its best and your suite has a fireplace, double shower with built in seats that converts to a steam room, a huge whirlpool tub overlooking the livingroom, a private heated pool, sauna and massage table and a king size circular bed and they deliver breakfast to your door

You had to go to the main dining room for dinner which of course was when we noticed the foilage

Well alas the honeymoon capital is no more there are deserted and burned out resorts all around. But we discovered our place was still up and running and in good repair

We drove through the grounds reminiscing

Well I have to be at church in 7 hours so. Nighty night
