I have sent Jane an IM, but she is evidently stoned out of her mind on wine and is giggling madly in the corner of her room watching it snow.  :)

I take it back, we were evidently posting at the same time.  Well, I take the part back about her giggling madly in the corner, anyway.  She was obviously at least at the keyboard.

Do any of you have any idea how horrifying it is to be awakened by Mushroom People?  I may have to Limbo to recover.

You may have to Limbo to Lima with a bimbo in your Limo!

People, I was awakened by Mushroom People.

In other news, the rain is still coming down in buckets, which is very painful if you happen to be standing there when a bucket comes down with rain in it and smacks you upside the head.

Whaddup, dawg?

My tuna pasta salad is the bling.

The Mushroom People have gone away.  Between The Frog with the Mask and The Mushroom People, this has been very disorienting.  But, I have done the Limbo and feel much better.  I'm now thinking about going for a drive, just because I'm feeling a little antsy.

I just finished watching DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS, which was quite funny.  I don't know how I missed it when it came out, but now I'm very excited about seeing the new musical with John Lithgow.

Speaking of seeing things, DR PennyO's "Jewish Thighs on Broadway" opens sometime in March.  I don't have the date, but I've been thinking that opening night should be an HHW night as well.  Are there any Hainsie/Kimlets who want to come in to New York for Penny's opening night festivities?  We could make it a grand HHW get-together, partay with the star after the show at Joe Allen's and have a grand old time!  I'm sure we can count on Ben and Baxter, Noel, Elan, perhaps Vixmom and WFO, perhaps SWW and Der Brucer would come up - it would be great to see them again - and DRJose will be in the show!  Maybe we can convince some out-of-town midwesterners or West Coasters to come East?

Oh, I’m reading DAUGHTER OF TIME by Josephine Tey

Jane - My group read Josephine Tey's To Love and Be Wise several years ago.  It had a great twist at the end.

Well, I guess it's true what they say about the Internet making libraries obsolete!  Congratulations to Ann for finding Jane's artist.

Actually, I'm not too worried about libraries going out of business because we're now pretty involved in helping people use the Internet.  Not everyone is as cyber-savvy as the folks here at HHW!

That sounds like SO much fun. I'd already said to Penny at bk's Christmas party that I'd try to come, and this makes it even more enticing. Pencil me in. I was hoping that Warner Bros. would send me to NY for meetings on my new gig, but alas, they e-mailed the notes on the Outline. Skammen. Well, WB or no WB, I need a NY fix -- and meeting all those East Coast Hainsies and Kimlets would be great!(And I could squeeze in a meeting with my producers, so the whole thing would be a business expense.) Yes!  I will try, try TRY (that's three tries) to make it! I know PennyO posted the opening date a few days ago, but could we have it again?

You know, when PennyO was talking about her show the other day, I actually looked at the workshop schedule at the Foundation Center to see if I could justify a trip!  Alas, I don't think it will work out, but I was very, very tempted!

JMK, you were absolutely right about the Lemony Snickett movie.  What a nothing!  Another big, empty, predictable, unsuspenseful, over-produced nothing!  The most inventive thing about the movie were the end credits.  I am also fed-up with movies that are not self-contained. Where they hold things back to reveal in future, hoped-for sequels.  I don't mind series pictures, but they must be complete in themselves and tell a full story.  Lemony Snickett set-ups and teases us with all sorts of mysteries and secrets (the most intriquing stuff in the movie) and then leaves it all unresolved at the end.  Blechhh!  It just seems like an unfinished story...which is exactly what it is.  What happened to the well-made play.  Stuff like this just defies the rules of sound dramaturgy.

As a Tarzan purist,  I am not fond of what film and TV has done to Tarzan.  The Weissmuller films as inaccurate as they are, are closer to the tone  and spirit of Burroughs' original Tarzan than most of the latest TV incarnations, which have saddled him with all sorts of political correct crap and try desperately to make him "hip and relevant for today's audience".  All they have succeeded in doing is making him bland and uninteresting...far from his iconic mythic-ness.  Though Panni, I do think your Jane...Lydie Dernier?...is a big hit with the Burroughs fans as she shows up at a vast number of conventions and sells a lot of photos and autographs and seems like a very nice woman.

Jane, as well as a Tarzan aficianado, I am also a Richard III aficianado.  I have probably two shelves of books on Richard and the War of the Roses.  Both fiction and history.  Hope you like DAUGHTER OF TIME.  Terrific book.  I have my own theories, which don't always mesh with detective Grant's, but this book puts the arguments out there.

Lydie Denier was Jane in the series. The original TV-movie Jane was Kim Crosby, who was in INTO THE WOODS on Broadway at the time. She is a lovely actress on stage, I'm sure. But that somehow didn't translate on film. She did a perfectly fine job - but she just didn't have that "it" factor which really does not have much to do with talent. This was particularly evident in her scenes with Tony Curtis, who played her dad. He, of course, has that certain "it."
One of the actresses who auditioned for Jane was Terri Hatcher. In fact, she was shooting a movie or something  in Vancouver and came to our home (we were living there at the time) where we shot a home video of her audition for the network. She borrowed an old family heirloom brooch of mine to hold her wrap together -- and accidentally walked off with it. (It was returned eventually.) We all wanted her for Jane. CBS, in its wisdom, turned her down.

DR Jane, that was an absolutely spectacular wintry view from your window. Thanks for sharing. Nothing prettier than new fallen snow in a scene like that. Of course, I like LOOKING at it, not LIVING in it.

The decision was made tonight to watch THE BOURNE SUPREMACY rather than COLLATERAL.

It was enjoyable enough, but really just three big chase scenes wrapped around a fairly weak conspiracy story leftover from the first film. Almost every review I read liked this sequel better than the original. Not me.

Yes, I was disappointed that NBC chose to merely repeat MEDIUM instead of offering a new episode (though I hadn't seen the pilot on Monday, so it did give me a chance to catch up).

I'm wondering if its surprisingly high premiere ratings made NBC think that they'd keep it appointment television for Monday by not offering a new episode on Thursday.

DRs MattH and JMK - I've played "Fallin'" many times at auditions.  It goes in phases.  I actually used to use it myself until I decided to devote my life to being behind the piano rather than in front of it.

"I Still Believe In Love" has started making a come back lately too.  I think with all the pop shows out there right now, singers are digging into the proverbial trunk.

As for the show itself...  I like Neil Simon, but the show is way too long!  And the balance of book to song seems very off to me.  They fit structurally, but I would like more than nine songs in a show.  -At least I think it's only nine songs.

DR Panni - Rats on a second floor are rare.  Just as long as you keep your place clean, you should be fine.  And always close your front door.  They're probably coming inside due to all the rain.  -That's why the mice came into my apartment in Richmond - and everyone else's apparently - back in November.  I finally saw a news story on it.  The local hardware stores could not keep the traps and other "stuff" in stock.

"The Look of Love" has to be one of the alltime best songs.  Jane Krakowski's version is great and almost as good as Dusty Springfield's .  I love Jane Krakowski and think she is incredibly talented, but Dusty's version of that song is hard to top.

I also love "One Less Bell" and never realized it was Bachrach.  He did a lot of good things, and he did his share of schlock (no hitting allowed), but when he's good, there is no one quite like him.   His bridges can be a bit awkward at times, but his stuff is certainly infectious.   You get one of his songs in your head, and it's stuck there.

"I Say a Little Prayer" has always been a fave;  "A House is Not a Home" (especially done by Dusty Springfield).  "Knowing When to Leave" is great, but I think it's more the lyrics than the melody.

BK, did you know that an official release of ATTACK OF THE MUSHROOM PEOPLE, in both dubbed and subtitled versions, is to be released in a couple of months?

I just finished watching THE INTRUDER (1961) starring William Shatner...quite a good movie!
