Ah DR DANISE thanks for the photo....haven't thought of Louis in many years.

DR CP - Edward Arnold was so very good.  And I think he is on the A STAR IS BORN DVD attending the premiere with his wife!  I didn't know he wrote an autobiography.  Did he have anything to say about Frances (he starred with her twice, and there are several complimentary comments he made at the time).

A NEW KIND OF LOVE.....I really thought that I didn't like Joanne Woodward when she played young and dowdy....until I saw her play a "beautiful" fashion designer all dressed up....and playing comedy....which she really can't do - IMO - whew.....I have always thought, that except for Eva Gabor....it should have been called A PHEW KIND OF LOVE.

I made fudge today.  The Jet-Puffed marshmallow cream recipe.  It's the best.    I'm still debating if I want to make a second batch.  I'll decide after I see how long it takes to cut all of it into pieces and wrap it.  It may not be worth it. ::)

I agree that's the best recipe. However, when I make a batch it doesn't last long enough to cut into pieces and wrap!

Watching Martha Raye and Charles Chaplin in M. VERDOUX.....how is it possible for one person to be broad AND subtle at the same time?  Martha is a master!

I haven't been doing much of anything today.  I watched last Wednesday's episode of Lost.  So, what's with the boy?  And I never understood why NOBODY really tried to look for Claire (the pregnant girl that was kidnapped).  They just let her go.  What about "there's safety in numbers?" (a The Boy Friend reference)  They could've gotten a BUNCH of people to go get her.  Things like that are frustrating.  I like the show, but I'm frustrated by it...at times.

Didn't the guy that took her say he would kill her if anyone tried to find them?

Oh, now dear reader Panni is being credited for the use of And one for Mahler on this here site???

I think a simple perusal of our posting archives will allow credit to be given to the proper individual.  I am shocked, do you hear, shocked.

Yes, they could easily have organized an ambush and surprised him.  Some of the others could have rescued Claire.  It could've happened. ::)

Good Evening!

Back from the show.  Ah... A day off.

And, man-o-man-o-man is it cold outside.  The air temp is 18, and the windchill is -5!.  Cold!

And now I'm going to warm up a little bit with a post-show snack.  I stopped by the Korean market on the way in, and I finally found where they keeped their "stewed tofu".  It's pieces of tofu that have been briefly fried, and then covered in red chili paste (hot) - almost like the seasoning for kimchi.  It's prepared fresh in their store.  They used to have a sort of salad bar where I would grab a few pieces, but they got rid of that a year or so ago, and just started to pre-wrap portions of the various things and put them in the refrigerator case.  Well, I found them again today!  ;)

Dateline is NBC. I thought it was a good tribute. Lots of very funny clips and a couple interviews with no analysis by talking heads, ending with the complete Bette Midler One For My Baby and One More for the Road from the last Carson show. Other tributes are just showing a little clip of the song

Humm, maybe but we don't know how many people we are dealing with.  There are OTHERS.  Or so we have been led to believe.

I'm ticked at Walmart.  Once again I bought something and it is not in my bag.  This time it was a chain necklace that I bought for my gargolye charm.  Hump.

On that note, I bid you a good evening.

Skammen, do you hear?  Or will someone else be credited with "skammen" too?  Other than Ingmar Bergman, of course.

I have only watched LOST for the past two weeks to try and figure out what everyone thinks is so great about the show (I am still trying to figure it out!).

What about the boy?  As I said, I have only seen the show twice, however, from an outsider's perspective, I would say that they are developing the story to indicate that the boy may be telekinetic.  In the back story (is that what they call them?) when he was with his mother and adoptive father, they wouldn't pay any attention to him he managed to make the bird he was looking at in his book fly into the window of the house.   So, maybe he brought the polar bear from the comic book to the island with his mind?

Hmm... Spicy tofu!  And it's also topped with scallions and sesame seeds too.  And just enough heat from the red chili peppers, not too hot, not too mild.

DR Jane - Would you like "stewed tofu"?

Watching Dateline - other than the young lady who is hosting the show, and who is obviously just playing to the camera and reading the prompter, it's a reasonably nice tribute.  I could live without the dramatic  underscore

In the southern part of Germany...the Bavarian area.  "Schteinabrickle" (I have no idea of the correct spelling) is one of the towns that she lived in.  I think that that's where one of her brothers live and mother lived (her mother died last year).

I haven't been doing much of anything today.  I watched last Wednesday's episode of Lost.  So, what's with the boy?  And I never understood why NOBODY really tried to look for Claire (the pregnant girl that was kidnapped).  They just let her go.  What about "there's safety in numbers?" I made fudge today.  The Jet-Puffed marshmallow cream recipe.  It's the best.  Of course, the only other recipe that I've used was the Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk recipe, which isn't as good...in my humble opinion (IMHO, in Internet lingo).  I'm still debating if I want to make a second batch.  I'll decide after I see how long it takes to cut all of it into pieces and wrap it.  It may not be worth it. ::)

I believe that part of Germany is beautiful and hope you can visit one day.

I completely agree with your comments on LOST.

I do not agree with you regarding the fudge.  The Bordon's recipe is the one I use, adding toasted slivered almonds and dried cherries.  I personally don't care for the marshmallow recipe.

DR Danise - Thanks for asking about the thing on my foot.  It did heal up after about a week.  I'm still not exactly sure what it was.  However, it was neat trying out those new Advanced Healing Band-Aids.  There's some "stuff" - yes, that's the technical term - in the band aid that forms a scab over the cut.  This way you can leave the band-aid on for days in a row.  And I did.  About four.  Waterproof and dirt proof.  Very "kewl".  When I took it off, the spot was all healed.  Now I'm just waiting to see if the scar is something temporary or not.

I can only assume that my AOL e-mail account is not frozen.  Although I had no personal e-mails waiting, I had about a dozen exciting new cruise specials waiting for my perusal.

(Don't go there, SWW[/b]!)

May I go there then?

Just finished watching "Women in Love" -- still scintillating and gorgeously photographed.  I saw this in Jacksonville Fl in 1971 (it was released in 1970) and it was up for a few Oscars.  Glenda Jackson was beyond superb, and I thought Alan Bates her equal.  Eleanor Bron, though, was simply sensational in her wonderful supporting role.  Oliver Reed and Jenny Lind were totally solid.

Re: "A New Kind of Love."   Joanne Woodward is a magnificent actress, and I've loved her work in a number of films.  However, had her first film been "A New Kind of Love," she'd never have worked again.  The film labors under her misguided performance...woefully neglected by the director who apparently phoned it in.  I've often pondered just who it is she based her character upon, and I think part of it was based upon Edith Head.  Since one never reads that Head had a comical bent, that must by why the character failed.

Woodward, IMO, is brilliant in "The Long Hot Summer," "Three Faces of Eve" and "From the Terrace."  I very much like her in "Winning" (along with Newman, Wagner and Richard Thomas, who played her son).  She hit her peak with "Rachel, Rachel," I felt, and "The Effect of Gamma Rays...Marigolds" was a wonderful film that keyed on the performance of Woodward and daughter Nell Potts (what in the HELL ever happened to Roberta Wallach...and why the FRELL do I seem to care?????).

My cleaning has continued.  Mattresses have been turned, fresh linens now covering them, and stale linens have been washed and are in the dryer.

I'm pooped.
