Just finished watching "Women in Love" -- still scintillating and gorgeously photographed. I saw this in Jacksonville Fl in 1971 (it was released in 1970) and it was up for a few Oscars. Glenda Jackson was beyond superb, and I thought Alan Bates her equal. Eleanor Bron, though, was simply sensational in her wonderful supporting role. Oliver Reed and Jenny Lind were totally solid.
Re: "A New Kind of Love." Joanne Woodward is a magnificent actress, and I've loved her work in a number of films. However, had her first film been "A New Kind of Love," she'd never have worked again. The film labors under her misguided performance...woefully neglected by the director who apparently phoned it in. I've often pondered just who it is she based her character upon, and I think part of it was based upon Edith Head. Since one never reads that Head had a comical bent, that must by why the character failed.
Woodward, IMO, is brilliant in "The Long Hot Summer," "Three Faces of Eve" and "From the Terrace." I very much like her in "Winning" (along with Newman, Wagner and Richard Thomas, who played her son). She hit her peak with "Rachel, Rachel," I felt, and "The Effect of Gamma Rays...Marigolds" was a wonderful film that keyed on the performance of Woodward and daughter Nell Potts (what in the HELL ever happened to Roberta Wallach...and why the FRELL do I seem to care?

?).
My cleaning has continued. Mattresses have been turned, fresh linens now covering them, and stale linens have been washed and are in the dryer.
I'm pooped.
