As I recall, one of the Condos brothers did the George Raft part.

I think Larry Kert did the Tony Curtis part.

No memory of who did the Marilyn Monroe role.

T.O.D.

I didn't see the announcement about the new musical version of SOME LIKE IT HOT, so I can't really comment on that.

I did see SUGAR when it played the Dorothy Chandler back in the (I believe) 1970s.  My publicity client, Gale Gordon, played the Joe E. Brown role, and as I recall, Robert Morse did the Jack Lemmon part.

I saw it there, too, but my program disappeared years ago, and for the life of me, I can remember hardly anything of the actual show.

As I recall, it wan't a very good show.

It may not have been, but I love the score, especially the songs that were on the first side of the album. Beauty That Drives a Man Mad, Two Penniless Bums and the melody for Sun on My Face are all excellent.

Yesterday I watched the movie, BAYWATCH.  It might have been better as a musical.

I just realized it's 80 DEGREES out there, and we're on our way to 85 this afternoon. And it's muggy as all hell.

No wonder they're calling for severe thunderstorms later.

Tomorrow, of course, will top out at 63.

Of course.

I had a very good time seeing Sugar - so good I saw it twice at the Chandler.  Robert Morse was great, Larry Kert was fun but a little too winky-winky, Steve Condos was a great tapper, Gale Gordon was funny, and Leland Palmer was very good but not really right as Sugar.  Gower Champion's staging was really clever.  Sugar has always been the problem with Sugar in the stage musical.  Marilyn Monroe was one-of-a-kind and she's kind of brilliant in the movie.  Hard to get that magic OR hold your own against two males who have all the laughs.

I'm sure Mr. Shaiman was asked or told to make that post.  He reads all those boards and they needed to do some serious damage control and get the earned negativity off them.

Didn't Kritzerland come out with a CD of SUGAR?

If so, I think I have it somewhere.

I remember reading that in the past, writers of shows that were adapted from other sources specifically would not give their show the same name as the original movie or book.  That made it more about being their (the writers') show and not just a musicalization of a property.  That also (it seemed to me) allowed the show writers to have more leeway to take things in different directions and not exactly copy the original source (even if that's what they did).

Just my 2˘.

The first musical i can recall that kept the same title as the film it was based on was SHENANDOAH.

By the time of WOMAN OF THE YEAR, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, and LA CAGE AUX FOLLES. it seemed that in general, musicals no longer bothered to find a different title.

(I wonder if "8-1/2" became NINE for reasons that might not be proper for a family site.)

I just assumed that it changed because "nine" is easier to rhyme than "eight-and-a-half."

For the London production (and cast recording), the song "Beauty That Drives a Man Mad" was revised (I don't know about any other songs).  The song now actually has an ending and I think is a much better version.

HERE is a live performance of (mostly) the original version of BTDaMM.  Jump to 1:20 to start at the song proper.

THIS is the version on the London cast recording.

Yes, the first.

Rex is hanging on. I take him in every few days for subcutaneous fluids. He eats a little. He's very thin. He was very angry after yesterday's vet visit and blood draw. He is still angry.

What a loony day.  Working on the song, picked up a package, made some pasta with butter, cheese, mushrooms and onions - I have three cups of pasta, which is six ounces but I didn't like it - I ate barely half and threw the rest out, so pretty good, calorie-wise.  Not sure why it was so gross but it was.  Then I had to hunt down some music in the garage - it's infuriating the way the old helper packed up stuff - I really need someone to come and get things on the shelves so I can find them all in one place.

I never read any of his books, but I just found out that Tom Wolfe, Pyrotechnic ‘New Journalist’ and Novelist, Dies at 88.  I work with several people who were fans of his.

Have you discussed with your vet doing the fluids at home?
