One year ago today, my beloved friend, Jim, died of a massive heart attack.  We had talked on the phone on Tuesday night for over an hour, and when we hung up, he promised to call me Sunday night.  Of course, he never called.  It was over a month before his niece emailed me that Jim had died.  She found my email address when she went to Phoenix to settle his affairs.

His niece,Kelly, sent me this photo today of Jim and Michel Legrand at her house a couple of years ago.

I now have to deal with Annabelle and Thatch both playing on my worktable while I'm trying to write. I've accomplished very little today.

DR Elmore, I know you want to save all the animals. But I think that your studio apartment with two cats is a full house already.

I know.  There still might be a third cat.  I tried to get a Siamese a month ago.

How can you drop that major tidbit of info and just leave??  We know we all want details!

I just ordered a new clock with large-size time and current date.  It says it is perfect for dementia patients, so it should be good for the rest of my life.

I also have another alarm clock on one side of my bed that I never use as an alarm, but it has a two-inch display that I can easily see the time without my glasses.  I also have a non-alarm clock that also has a two-inch display that I can easily see the time without my glasses on the other side of my bed so that I don't have to roll over to see the time, no matter which side I'm facing. ;)

Smart placing of your clocks.

I completely agree plus you would be lucky to establish harmony between 3 pets.  Don't forget how difficult it was when you got Thatch.

George, are you already at the theater?

I am now.  We had some technical problems with the sound/images again and had to hold the house for about 20 minutes. :o

I'm up, I'm up - eight hours of sleep.  I was up for an hour or so around eight-thirty, and didn't fall asleep until almost five.

Fortunately, it got fixed and the show has been flawless.  None of the audience seemed to have complained.  Also fortunately, it's general admission/festival seating, so people can easily sit wherever they want.

One thing I've learned from this wacky newspaper journey - once the Stadium was gone, I only went to the Picfair a handful of times - saw Pocketful of Miracles there, One, Two, Three there, and A Hard Day's Night there, and that was it.  I went to the Lido pretty regularly until we moved to Beverlywood, and then it was very sporadic.  Once we moved, I pretty much only went to first class theaters.  I can't tell you the number of films where I think "that's not where I saw it" only to realized I'd seen a sneak preview at another theater - Dirty Dozen was that way, so was The Prize, Molly Brown, Toys in the Attic, Adrian Messenger, Experiment in Terror, etc.

Dear reader ChasSmith wrote a lovey Amazon review of the new book - he got the Kindle edition.  Here's what he wrote.

5.0 out of 5 stars A magical mystery tour through Hollywood!
March 16, 2019
Format: Hardcover

Bruce Kimmel and Adriana Hofstetter have done it again!

Hollywood's Magic Castle must be the most amazing venue. Throughout my reading of this delightful murder mystery, I regretted not having sought admittance (it's a VERY private club) during the years I lived in and around Hollywood. But I wouldn't have appreciated it then like I would now.

Kimmel provides some interesting details about the general ambiance and the day-to-day workings of the place, which only makes you want more. And like all of the Adriana books, it's populated with the usual delightful characters and authentic Hollywood detail.

A book's success can sometimes be measured in how effectively its author gets the subject matter under the reader's skin. As this story unfolded, I found myself planning on seeking out more info on the Magic Castle itself, and especially on the various categories of magic performance -- something I've always enjoyed, but always in the most casual way, never giving a second thought to it.

Murder at the Magic Castle is a sight for sore eyes for readers who haven't devoured an Adriana Hofstetter mystery in a while. If you've never read one yourself, what are you waiting for? You can start with any of them. Start with this one!

Ideally, I would have a similar-aged kitty here for Leonard to play with so he would leave Rex alone. But three cats is too many for my house again.
