I was reminded of this by some chat in the Times site;

Remembering the unofficial BMI and ASCAP and New School workshop lore, that - with love also meaning love of ideals and  goals - there are really only 4 categories of theater songs:
(1) I'm in love.
(2). I wish I were in love.
(3) I'm not in love.
(4) Shipoopi.

I guess it's because, if you're not in love, you're up Shipoopi Creek.

I'm facing my least favorite activity in the world. I'm having to write my resume. Someone asked for it, and while I'm not looking forward to moving, I am at an age where I won't get asked to the dance too often anyone (except senior dances where I can practice my other occupation).

I've had a box of 16mm home movies sitting in my various closets for 55-60 years.  I haven't watched them for all that time.

A couple of weeks ago, I took them to this place that transfers old movies onto DVD.

Yesterday, I watched the DVD, which ran about 45-50 minutes.

What memories....

Yesterday, my wife and I watched 2 movies:

IT'S A MAD (4) WORLD
ROSE MARIE (1954)

I'm researching a new play, but as usual, I'm not going to reveal the subject until it's finished.

 :D

I hope it is Thurl Ravenscroft.

Interview done.  Fun.  I think the focus will be on Leslie Neilsen, but he asked good questions and I was lively.

I finished the choral piece, got to market, and spent too much time on the phone with AppleCare.  My iMac needs a tune-up

Ended up at McDonald's - just wanted fast and easy and it was good.  I'm going to try and not have anything else today.

Got through the matinee unscathed (which I guess is better than getting through it scathed), and that is that until next Friday evening.

DR JRand68’s TOD:

It’s odd to find that I don’t have an actual memory of which car it was, even though I remember the day and the driving test itself as administered by the Florida Highway Patrol. But it logically had to be the 1964 Rambler I was given to take to school when my parents moved on to their next car. (They had four or five Ramblers in a row.)

I tend to think of it as being in an earlier car that was stick shift, which my dad had previously (and unsuccessfully) tried to teach me how to drive.

But it had to be that light bluish green Rambler (automatic).

I'm reminded of the exchange in APPLAUSE where the gay male re-thinking of Thelma Ritter's character says "I gave. a date." and Margo says "Bring him along!"

How Bacall did the line at 0:20 here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRikWbT6WG0

Dorothy Collins at North Shore apparently would hit the "him" with a huge almost sledge hammer  emphasis.  The Box office person (who was a friend of ours, and heard it every night since it was early in the show) said it felt like the director must have asked her for that.

I took my first driving test in a '59 Chevy Impala with tail fins.  We got to a main intersection, pulled in so I was blocking all lanes, and the car died.  We had to get people to push the car out of the way.  Obviously I didn't get my license that time.

Around four o'clock I was awakened by a loud noise, a jolt, and movement - a small earthquake - but we've had slightly bigger ones than this recently that I haven't felt at all, but this one was sudden and it knocked over a little framed picture in the bookcase by the bed.  I righted it, went online to see only one report of the little quake (3.1) and then went back to bed.

That was a rather strong jolt for such a small earthquake.  Was it right under you ;)

DR Kevin, of course go to the Parthenon.  Be careful though as in many areas the old stone is worn, smooth, and slippery.

Walk around the Plaka area and also find a restaurant that appeals to you. https://www.athensguide.com/plaka.html

You can take an all day tour to three islands, Hydra, Poros, and Aegina.  Or take the ferry to just one island.  We went to charming Hydra and spent a couple of nights there.

Two and a half hours from the city is Delphi. You can find days tours to Delphi.  We did a wonderful 4 day tour to Epidaurus, Mycenae, Olympia, Delphi, Meteora.  Meteora was gorgeous.

Thanks, DR Jane!   I'm staying for a week near the Archaeological Museum.   My friend is going to show me the sights, but I just wondered if there was something in particular you recommended, such as a vegetarian restaurant.   Since I have a reservation for the whole time at one hotel I don't plan on taking any overnight trips.  Thanks for the day trip suggestions!

It isn't our favorite city.  It should be different since you are meeting a local.  I do suggest a day trip or two if possible.  I can't recall any restaurants to recommend or I would have.  I don't even know where I finally found a vegetarian Moussaka to try and I only found it once.  On one of the islands (we did a cruise to various island & Croatia) we found a fava bean falafel.  Bryan had made this for us when Keith grew our own fava beans.  The one in Greece was almost as good, so if you see fava bean falafels I suggest trying them.

I look forward to experience Athens through your eye with your private tour guide.

I loved walking the streets during the time they were just starting to get ready for the Olympics. I loved eating on a rooftop at midnight (dinner time) i even liked retsina, which I have always hated (who puts pine in wine?). The antiquities and jetlag kept me busy the four days I was there.

There you go, different strokes for different folks.  It probably didn't help that we were there in August.

We watched the sunset at Cape Sounion.  It was very nice except the driver of our tour bus wouldn't leave once the red sky was gone, and really you want to get down the road before it is dark.  We did this the first night we boarded the ship and were expecting to be back in time for dinner.  Had we known how late we would be we would have had lunch before leaving.

I had been a Greek mythology and classics geek when I was a kid. I remember reading a book on the seven wonders of the ancient world five or six times. Getting to see the Parthenon and walking through it as well as the nearby amphitheater  (with the world's freakiest acoustics) was fulfillment of a youth wish.

The car I took my driver's test in, and my first car after graduating high school, was my mother's Olds Cutlass.  Keith is sure it was a 1961 Cutlass.
