Taking a break from proofing.  I'm starting chapter six when I get back to it.

Well, I'm off to my sister's to celebrate her boyfriend's birthday.  He's turning 70 years old!  (I think. ::) )

Until later.

It was very muggy on our walk today.  Shortly after we returned it began to rain, good timing.

It's been raining all day here in Tumwater.

Can you send us a little of your rain? .I said a little. I wonder if we're going to get any of the rain that's excepted to come in with the hurricane.

My friend is stranded at the Dallas airport due to the weather.  I am sure they would be happy to send you some rain.

The Small House of Uncle Thomas is just starting. And there's 45 minutes to go.

Found a copy of Werner Herzog's version of Nosferatu today. I haven't seen that one in years. Bruno Ganz was wonderful, and Klaus Kinski was born to play Nosferatu.

I also found a copy of John Mauceri's the Gershwins in Hollywood with Gregory Hines and Patti Austin. Should be fun. The lineup of songs is nice.

Forgot the chopsticks vs. fork bit in The King and I. It's interesting to me. The Thai people I know don't use chopsticks. I wonder if they stopped after the king.

I did finish the movie. I think Shall We Dance? is sheer musical theater perfection. I'm trying to think of moments that equal it. Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man is one. A Weekend in the Country is another.

Watching the extra about the history of the show. They've got good tape recordings of Rodgers and Hammerstein talking about the show. Much more interesting than the talking head likes of Steven Suskin.

During the course of proofing this audiobook and following along with the galley - I have found at least four really annoying style things, a word missing - it's just amazing that four proofers do an incredible job, and that includes me, and still you can never catch everything.

"YMCA" from "Can't Stop the Music". looks like more and more crazy fun as we see more of what the 21st century has been bringing us.  :)

Sometimes, costume design in a musical film is knowing what not to wear as much as what to wear.

Look at these credits for that movie.  (Michael is surely more knowledgeable about all things Allan Carr, of course.)

The title credits of "Can't Stop the Music"

People like to point to "Taxi Driver" to show how seamy (or unseemly!) the Broadway area was before Disney cleaned it up.  But this is late 1970s  or so during the work day, and may be a bit cleaner than it was in real life, but still pretty accurate.

(or is some of that L.A. sliced in?  not sure.)

I'd forgotten June Havoc and Tammy Grimes were in that movie.

LOL.  When we eat at Thai restaurants we use chopsticks even though we have been told it isn't traditional.
