Watched The Mysterians, a Japanese sci-fi monster thing I enjoyed as a child.

Now, more Tales of the Unexpected.

DR Ben - Tell DR/DP Ant not to worry about his audition.  We all liked it.  Hope the rest of his auditions went well.  -I'll also be playing for some other auditions over the next two weeks, so maybe our paths will cross again.

RE: The snow in NYC yesterday (Tuesday)...

The snow wasn't too bad.  The wind, however, was a totally different story.  Seeing the snow blow horizontally outside the big window at Equity was a bit "scary".  And auditionees kept coming in and commenting on how we were in the "warm room", and how lucky we were to be inside.

DR Rodzinski - Glad to know you made it to the West Coast.  Hope you get to make up some of that sleep you lost on your way out there.

DR PennyO - I'll call you in the morning.  I was going to call you today, but my mind was elsewhere this afternoon.  Well, to be precise, it was in Studio 11 at Chelsea Studios.

That's all my very tired mind can remember to respond to right now...

Today's auditions went well.  They could have gone better, but they went well.  What was "weird" - and this is a trend I've noticed over the past couple of times I've come up to play auditions - is that we had a bunch of no-shows.  And today was agent submission day!  There were people who had confirmed who didn't show up.  There were people who just didn't plain call to cancel or say they were no longer interested.  And there were very few follow up calls from the agents explaining their clients' absences.

However, towards the end of the day, we did end up seeing some pretty amazing actors/actresses who are recent graduates of Circle In The Square's acting program. They made my day.

I'm probably going to have to go right to sleep after the notes are posted, as workers will be here very early in the morning, like eight o'clock.

Close Harmony Groups:

The Manhattan Transfer
Rare Silk (now defunct, I believe)
Toby Twining - Although, the type of music they perform is on the avant-garde classical side.
Rockapella
The Real Group - From Sweden.  My friend, Chris, turned me onto them.  Great stuff!  They have a song called "Chili Con Carne" which is an instant toe-tapper and smile-inducer.
The Bobs
The Nylons
The Persuasions

I also like a lot of the college groups - Yale Whiffenpoofs, Princeton Tigertones, etc.  And I think it's an encouraging sign that the whole male a cappella group circuit is still thriving - and competitive!

-Oh, and when I did The Music Man in high school - I was in the Quartet - I and my fellow School Board Members were made honorary members of S.P.E.B.S.Q.A.!  (The Society for the Preservation and Enjoyment of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America.)  -or something close to that.

DR JMK et al...

Have you checked out Mainely A Cappella?

They really do seem to have almost every single available vocal group recording in stock, as well as a great selection of sheet music.  And they also carry a lot of the arrangements and recordings from the college groups.

Apparently the answer to all my questions is no and yes.  No Ann has not caught up, yes Jed is going to sit there like so much fish.

Must fight urge to run screaming...

Not "Chili Con Carne"!!!!! :D

This song became something of a joke with us NW college vocal jazz types a few years back.  Perfectly decent song, but was so incredibly overdone (usually rather poorly) that none of us can keep a straight face in reference to it anymore!

That being said, I am another Real Group fan.

Not sitting like so much fish, merely catching up on posts and posting if and when I have something to say.
