Yep, I really love the 1960 film version of THE TIME MACHINE. I used to teach the novel tosome of my classes, and the 1960 movie is different from it, of course, but I think I actually prefer the film to the book in this case.

To answer DR Joey's question from last night, I LOVED the movie FARGO. I thought the characters were marvelous and memorable, much of it was very funny, but the parts that were suspenseful were very effective. It and OH BROTHER WHERE ART THOU are my favorite Coen Brothers' films.

DR MattH - These are 2 all-time favorite films in our household, too. RE Fargo, being from the upper midwest, I love the accents, and being a long-time fan of Harve Presnell, I love that he has continued to get good roles in his later years.

Is this a slow news day here at haineshisway.com?

Back from the paperback show, which was oke.  The worst thing was that they had the temperature at about twelve degrees, and I finally had to bail it was so damnably cold.  Nick, Pogue, and I then went to Dr. Hoggly Woggly's Texas Barbecue and had delicious foodstuffs such as Texas links, babecue beef and cole slaw, beans, and macaroni salad.

Margaret finished reading the new pages and liked them very much.  But, she had a real problem with one aspect of the ending.  At first, if I was going to address it, it would have required the removal of one short chapter, and about five new pages for the last chapter.  But, in talking through it, I think we came up with a way to have it be not problematic for her without changing anything but about four paragraphs, so that's what I'll do first to see if it works better for her.  I think it will solve her small problem, which I don't entirely disagree with.

Her one other note was about a character earlier in the book, and that note I completely agree with and I'll be adding two or three things to make that character's deal stronger.

Well, my sister has called to remind me that I said that I'd help straighten up her garage.  I said that I'd do that because she said that she'd get all of her stuff out of my garage (it used to be her garage).  So, I'm going to clean a couple of garages.  I hope it doesn't take too long.  It shouldn't take more than a couple of hours...her isn't messy at all and mine, well, we just need to get her stuff out of it.  So, have a good day all! ;D

Could you be more specific about what's creepy?  Ruth Gordon?  Rosemary's nightmare?  Tony Randall?

All of the above.  :-\

I love The Time Machine - movie (1960) and book.  I am a bit worried about the new War of the Worlds movie, but since I really like the book, maybe this one will be more to my liking.

I guess it's general knowledge that the actor who is striken blind and thus allows Guy to get his role is voiced in the telephone conversation with Mia Farrow by Tony Curtis.

And as for Wells, well wait 'til June:

Spielberg directing, Screen Play by David Koepp, Score by John Williams - what's not to like!

Koepp is definitely joining my list of "must see" writers; highlights so far:

Secret Window (2004) (screenplay)
Spider-Man (2002) (screenplay)
Panic Room (2002) (written by)
Stir of Echoes (1999) (screenplay)
Mission: Impossible (1996) (screenplay) (story)
Jurassic Park (1993) (screenplay)
Death Becomes Her (1992) (written by)

DH Richard and I returned not long ago from helping at a used book sale put on by the Middletown branch of the American Association of University Women.  This being the last day, people bought a brown paper grocery bag for $3.00 and could fill it with books.  I'm amazed at what folks will buy!

I'm watching the National Pie Championships...it's making me crave pie.  Perhaps I'll make a pie today.

Jose was quite relaxed and In The Zone - he played so beautifully, it quite took my breath away. The underscoring for the monologues is so delicate - supportive without intrusion, and Maestro Simbulan pulls exquisite phrases from that beaten up cigar box they call a piano, in the 72nd St. Studios. Oh, the man has HANDS!!!

If Penny says so, then I know it is true.  :)  Once day I hope to see & hear Jose in action.

I can't even imagine Brave New World or 1984 being mentioned in a classroom today.  They contain sex without benefit of marriage.  The first relies on drugs for it's plot.  People could be offended.

They might make the students think.

It's a good night for chili tonight.  I'm going Depression-Era style this time, with ground meats and beans and (gasp) tomatoes!

I just hope the puppies realize that this is not intended for them!   :-\

TCB I only read about the meteor in the paper.  If I had been outside I could have seen it-darn.

I’m also worried that come summer we will have to pay the price of this beautiful weather we are currently experiencing.  Today Keith mentioned he should removed the studded tires on his SUV.  That might be one way to get some snow.

Today's LOL Moment probably applicable only to JR and myself:  I received an email from a "huge Francis (first clue) Farmer fan" who is willing "to pay anything" for a signed copy of her autobiography.  Now I'm not one to take advantage of obviously braindead people, but this time, I'm tempted.

Here's the punchline for the rest of the non-obsessed world:
(Will There Really Be a Morning? wasn't really written by Frances and was released two years after her death, so finding a signed copy would be something to write home about).

FLIBBITIGIBBIT!

I've been making the changes I posted about earlier - I'll be reading them to Margaret over the phone at some point this evening.
