Good to hear about the Act 2 progress.

I need to sit down and have me a good read-through of the play.

How depressing to hear about such inaccuracies in a book. Any book, really — but when it’s one that by its very nature should be safely considered “scholarly”? Shame on them.

And our DR Elmore is nothing if not scholarly. Here’s a project for you, sir: A companion volume of errata and expansion for one Mr. Suskin’s book about the sound of some music.  :)

Larry, did you know the show "Love, Linda" which Gary Friedman and Stevie Holland have done at the York

It was dreadful.  Maybe I just didn't like the actress at the York.  It had too little to do with the relatively nebulous Linda Porter and more to do with singing some Porter songs.

Thinking of Cole Porter and By extension New Yorkers:

It's interesting that some chatters are strongly seeing as a big flaw in "Moulin Rouge" that the Count (played by Tam Mutu) until we eventually see his bad side is every bit as appealing and charismatic as Christian (played by Aaron Tveit), the poor writer Satine (played by Karen Olivo) is in love with."

Mr Suskin is too arrogant to deal with and too little of a musician to correct his errors.  I admire his enthusiasm and there are many wonderful things about the book, but . . .

And yet SPOILER ALERT -

When Christian (Aaron Tveit) is actually pushed to a level of rage, he ends up being just as destructive when pushed as the Count (Tam Mutu)is!!!

It's just that we don't see that in Christian becoming just as scary-when-pushed until much later in the show.

It could be amazing to Ione day see Tveit and Mutu play each others roles.  (commercially that likely could never happen, because of the keys)

I loved that complexity when I saw it in Boston, but talking to Skip (who saw it last week) and others who saw it here, it sounds like the plot was simplified since Boston -

I think you're looking too deeply at a piece of inconsequential and poor writing called Moulin Rouge.  I can't believe this garbage is still running.

which sounds like it's helping the show commercially. I've been mystified that the book is called slight, which is something I never thought I'd hear about anything by the author John Logan's work (even what he was part of with the movies Skyfall or Gladiator, along with Red and Never the Sinner, even the funny I'll Eat You Last),

but when $28-million is on the line, I guess that happens and maybe the bookwriter has to make concessions to the product.  The book was many things in Boston, I thought, but "slight connective material" wasn't one of them at all, not by a long shot.

Skip also didn't see Danny who was out that afternoon, but the understudy who was cast colorblind - and everyone says Kevyn Morrow is doing really great though -

yet since the real-life character Danny plays was not ethnic and his being just Caucasian may have been part of the impresario's real-life history. Just like Toulouse Lautrec being abnormally short due to a bone condition forms who je was in real life,  and is not short here since dealing with that might have added complexity there was no stage time for- but was part of who the character Toulouse Lautrec was in life.

The actor playing Toulouse is short-ish but only by comparison to others onstage.

But most importantly, I am trying to make up posting vixmom- style for my E&T days, when fo some reason I was reading but had to keep my mouth shut about goings-on.  so as in My fair Lady, I kept to the weather and everybody's health for those few days.

And I kept getting to posts after the days were closed anyway, which at times was for the best.

And this has been new:  Does anyone else get this on their computers - that Spell Check wants to correct "vixmom" as "victim".
