Good Afternoon!

Back from lunch.  I headed down a block to Zoës.  It's basically a sort of Greek/healthy/salad/sandwich place.  I had the "Power Platter" - a grilled chicken breast on top of a mound of Zoës Slaw (cabbage, feta cheese, scallions, oil & vinegar).  Very healthy and dietetic.  Of course, I ended up having a Chocolate Yoo-Hoo and a  slice of YaYa's Homemade Chocolate Sheet Cake for dessert.  -But it was a small piece... with lots of frosting.

;)

I'm thinking I may head back there before they close and get a 1/2 pound of their chicken salad and tuna salad for the weekend.  -They're only open M-F.  This way I can eat somewhat healthily over the next two days.  -I really think I've sort of overdone it dietetically the past few days.  And I'm not even in New York City?!?!?!?

I'm hoping that Indy is a bit less tempting culinarily.

What I don't understand is,  if you strongly believe in an afterlife and you strongly believe in a loving, forgiving, compassionate Savior, and you strongly believe that Heaven is a place with no pain, just total joy and love and fulfillment WHY would  you insist on forcing  a dying person to remain trapped in an pain ridden earthly body instead of letting them move on to the next plane of existence?

Let me get this straight. You want to apply logic and reason to the antics of religious fanatics? First we need to figure out the Inquisition, the burning of Joan of Arc, the Children's Crusade, the Salem Witch trials, the GodHatesFags web site, the list goes on.....

Yeah, I am one of those nitwits who believes that being Christian means you should at least try to grasp a tiny bit of what the Christ was preaching, all that "judge not" and  "forgive" and "love" stuff   guess I'm just a holdover hippy....

As for INDY food - DRJOSE you are many miles away from downtown, and I don't know what is really available up in Near-Hamilton-County which is where you will be staying, but it is the Beverly Hills of Indianapolis, so it may be a bit pricey and have lots of little shops to browse through.  I don't think much of interest is within walking distance - and the public transportation system (nee The Bus) is notoriously unreliable.  If you have a car, pay CLOSE attention to parking restrictions.  Towing companies and meter maids lie in wait with ticket book and hook!

I've done a little bit of investigation of the immediate area...

Keystone Mall - or whatever it is called - has an Apple Store, and I'm pretty sure I'll be spending some time there taking advantage of some of the free workshops.

Luckily, the place we're staying has full kitchens, so if I can make one good grocery run when we get in next Monday, I should be fine for the week.  I'll also have access to a rental car that I'll be sharing with the assistant conductor.  *The company is all being "given" rental cars due to the distance from the hotels to the theatre.  However, with gas prices being what they are nowadays, I'm pretty sure most of us won't be doing too much "exploring" while in town.

And thanks for the parking warning.  I'll be sure to pass the word around.

Well actually I may soon have THREE!!! We actually bought one  a couple of weeks ago but didn't realize at that time that the roller wouldn't fit the car because  '96 ws the year they changed the shape of the body...the 90 - 95 were virtually identical...

So it seems we have cornered the market on these things!

DR Jose - Lee Smith's novel The Last Girls opens with the line, "Harriet thinks it was William Faulkner who said that the South begins in the lobby of the Peabody Hotel."  Later:  "Harriet follows the bellboy past the fountain where the famous ducks swim round and round.  Soon, she knows, the ducks will waddle out of the fountain and get into an elevator and ride upstairs up to wherever they're kept.  The ducks do this every day.  What would happen, Harriet wonders, if somebody shooed them out the door and down the street and into the river?"

;)

And according to the announcement preceeding the Ducks' appearance, the Mississippi River actually starts at the Fountain!

LOL derBrucer and Vixmom.  I love semantics!

DRJOSE - Keystone at the Square Mall is the MOST expensive place in town to shop.  Clowes is at around 46th Street - so you are many blocks from Downtown.

The Art Museum is undergoing renovation and is basically a wash right now.  The State Museum is interesting if you like farmers and plows and tractors.  The Canal is a great walking spot - with no parking, but after 5 p.m. parking downtown is free.  Too late for someone with an 8 pm curtain though.

Movies will be a good diversion.  And there is always the tour of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway if that kind of thing interests anyone.  The Butler Campus is pretty and in the middle of a nice residential neighborhood, but I wouldn't recommend walking around at night.

There are several "special interest" night clubs, but they are in out of the way locations.

Enjoy your stay!!  And cooking at the hotel sounds like a great idea.  A good time to catch up on reading and email.

I don't think there is a RODZINSKI-ZZ TOP plaque up yet, but possibly soon.  It sounds like something our legislature would spend time on.

Thanks DRGINNY - me too!

The Broadway Abner, darling, is a cast album, not a soundtrack.  It's the pedant in me.  I heard the film soundtrack first, and could never quite get used to the quite different-sounding cast album, but I've grown to adore it over the years.

If you hadn't corrected him, bk, I would have. Probably my biggest pet peeve of all time is for folks I respect to call Broadway cast albums "soundtracks," and I always try to provide "guidance" when I read or hear that.

True, there have been some shows recorded live, and in those cases I might submit to someone arguing that it was a "soundtrack" even though that really is a film term.

But LI'L ABNER with Edie Adams et al is not a soundtrack.

I have to say it (and I believe I've said it before), but PASSION is the one Sondheim show in which I respect the craft without being really fond of it. I have the cast album and I have the DVD of the filmed Broadway performance, but they don't get much of a workout. His other shows I am FAR more PASSIONate about. (pun intended)
