Miserable rainy day here.  The Vixter has been embroidering flowers on her Nicaraguan doll, which she  had to make for her Spanish class, most of the day

She just announce that for her Science project she has to make  a video on recycling.  Am I completely crazy in thinking these teachers are way out of line?  When I was a kid we showed up with a notebook, a looseleaf binder and some pencils and pens   I don't remember ever receiving any assignments which required my mother driving me all over creation (good thing too because she didn't drive) and paying pfr hundreds of dollars of supplies

Why can't these teachers just %^^&(!!**@# TEACH!!!?

End of Rant
First task is to check with the teacher! 30 years of classroom teaching suggests that a "video" may have been one suggestion made by the teacher!  If the projects seem unreasonable  always check with the teacher - there were probably alternatives.

Currently listening to a BK-produced album which I had inexplicably not heard before now, featuring orchestrations by our very own elmore... Unsung Sondheim.  The joys of a library card. :D

UNSUNG SONDHEIM was my second joyous collaboration with producer and Dear Friend BK, back to back with the Liz Callaway Frank Loesser album.  I can't believe we lived through those two weeks of madness!  I have great memories of fast fixes to "No Marianne" band parts, teaching the Plaids adjustments to their "Saturday Night" vocal parts where arranger Jim Raitt inexplicably didn't follow Sondheim's harmonies, the thrill of Tony Walton's cover design,  the long mixing sessions where Bruce, Vinny and I would stagger out of the studio into the night.  God, I miss it!

Just back from a wonderful dinner at Artie's with Miss Jewish Thighs herself, my beloved Penny O.  When she departs on April 13, I'll lose a bit of my heart.

An excellent point, good sir.

Ah so we have to change the clocks back tonight? :(

Have any of you American Idol fans seen this story on Scott?:

Btw, I did get to see the end of Alias (about 3 minutes plus previews). My sis had taped it.

I won't do any teacher "bashing" -- and I'm NOT implying that DR Wixmom is doing that! Oh no! -- because most teachers do quite a "job" and are usually not appreciated at all nowadays in our cultures!

It's always "their faults!" and they are sure not paid decently, and yes, even -- or is it mainly?? -- in France!

Just like nurses, one of the most difficult "jobs" imho!
We need to have more respect (and appreciation of) for teachers and nurses!

Vote for ME! LOL!

Quite right, BK.  Daylight Saving (singular, not plural) Time used to begin on the last Sunday in April, but was moved to the first Sunday in April in 1986.

Damn them, damn them all to hell.

So, we have to Spring forward, correct?  At two it will be three.

I went to the Bank of Bur today, to the little equivalent of the 3rd St. mall in Santa Monica.  I used to love those three blocks on San Fernando, but now they're practically all chain restaurants.  The two great bookstores are gone - Book City and whichever one was the huge one on the northeast corner of one of the blocks - what a great store that was.  It's now a beauty college.  I went into Movie World, an interesting store - but it is such a pig sty and has such a bad vibe that I only stayed a few minutes.  I picked up some local LA playbills from the early sixties, along with a 1957 issue of Theater Arts that I didn't have, with Judy Holliday in Bells Are Ringing on the cover.

I'm slightly off today myslef-- which I guess is usual for me.

Cartoons:  Out of loyalty to DR Ben I'll have to say "Danger Mouse."

LOVED "Rocky and Bullwinkle" and "Beanie and Cecil."

"Top Cat" and "Jonny Quest" (I had a thing for Race Bannon) were faves too.

Some of the "Quick Draw McGraw" stuff was cute.  I loved "Snagglepuss" too.

And "Roger Ramjet" of course.

Religiously incorrect humor alert department:

While I join the world in mourning the death of the Pope, I was outraged to hear a Priest on tonight's news saying that the swimsuit competition had been eliminated from the Conclave to elect the new Pope.  Does no one respect tradition anymore?   >:(

I was at Best Buy (still looking at the laptops) when I saw that the Pope had passed away.  I knew it was going to happen but I still felt shocked.

I called Mom right away to let her know.

Here in Indiana (most of it) we do NOT change our clocks.  Yes, starting tomorrow morning at 2 a.m. we will go from EST to CST without doing a thing.  Which means of course that all of the cable and satellite programming will be one hour earlier!

Well, I don't know from no Winnebago, however - my friends Beverly and Jeanne lived on a farm when we were all growing up.  A neighbor teen boy broke into their garage, stole their tractor, and tried to drive off with it.  He tried to drive over a fence, turned the tractor over on himself (still on their property), and sued successfully for his medical expenses.

More wild-life!

While outside, in the dark, working on a clogged sewage grinder, the workman noticed some "chipmonks" climbing about the tree which holds my squirrel and bird feeders. They looked cute, dashing up and down the tree. Then from high in the tree came a "whosh" and a grey streak moved between two trees. Now, chipmonks can't jump that far! "Ya know ", sez he, "I heard we have some flying squirrels around here." As if on cue, one of the critters took off from one tree and glided to the other - with the flash-light on him you could see the "wings" clear as day.

I have this nice little travel clock next to my bed.  At the appropriate time it shall spring forward all by itself.  How convenient.  :D

FROUNCE!  What's wrong with FROUNCE?  You don't even want an ounce of FROUNCE?  We must banish FROUNCE, is that what you're saying?

I have the oddest craving for a salad with ranch dressing and croutons.  Isn't that funny.
