BK, years ago, I worked in the Burbank Book City. Started that store, as a matter of fact. Hauled all the books from the Hollywood warehouse there. It did indeed used to be a great three blocks...Book Castle used to be there which was a great used bookstore, then Movie World which has lots of interesting stuff, but, as you say, a pigsty and I don't have the patience to search like I once did, then the paperback store, another pigsty, and there was a great bookstore further down the block that has pretty much turned into a phenomenon/ufo store and stopped stocking interesting things. Dan Alvino was, for awhile, running the A&S remainder bookstore across the street from Book City...which has sort of become another pigsty.
Now that the weather is turning warm, The Lovely Wife and I indulged in one of our favourite pastimes, sitting on the back balcony with a bottle of bubbly listening to music and watching the sun go down in the canyon on the Hollywood sign. Our selection tonight was the BK produced CD of No Way To Treat A Lady. Very clever and fun musical! What else has Douglas Cohen done? BK, did you enjoy doing this project? I thought they did somethings better than the movie...especially pointing up the fact that both the protagonist and antagonist are harried and smothered by their mothers.
With the time change, we'll be enjoying many more sundowns on the back balcony with music and wine.
