Here’s how the San Antonio symphony is dealing with quarantine.

Glorious!  "Nimrod" is the most beautiful and heartbreaking of Elgar's Enigma Variations.  Each variation is one of Elgar's friends.  Nimrod is Elgar's good friend Augustus Jaeger.

T.O.D.

I was sent a review copy of LOVE AMONG THE RUINS with Katharine Hepburn and Laurence Olivier, which I will watch this weekend.

Both Hepburn and Olivier won an Emmy for their performances.

I remember enjoying Love Among the Ruins. It’ll be interesting to read if you think if it holds up after all these years.

I haven't managed to leave yet.  I was sent the review of the Babes In Toyland materials going to the Packard Humanities Institute, and I needed to read it and send an email. Now I'm heading out.

Maybe The Hardy Boys.

That is comment that would have worked last night.

I have bookmarked the NOW & THEN link.

I may also watch JANE EYRE at the National Theatre's YouTube link.

And I know this will brighten everyone's day - tomorrow I'll drive to the Bank of Bur and pick up a proper mask.  As it turns out, we bought a whole box of them two years ago when one of our Carol Christmas actors was sick and we didn't want her infecting the cast.  So, Doug went and got them from the theater :)

That is convenient.   I hope the masks we ordered arrive soon and are decent.  The ones our friend/neighbor gave us was actually very comfortable, not that I would want to wear it for long.

Whether I actually wear it is another story.  Certainly if I have to do a Gelson's run I will and maybe into the mail place, but that's IT.

I read that Gelson's website says a mask is required.

That leads to a digression. In the mid-1950s my Uncle Paul and his family moved into my grandmother's house at 711 Tenth Avenue.  My grandmother then began a series of long visits with several of her her other six children: Jean didn't want her, Ruth lived in relative poverty in a very small house, Bob didn't want her, and that left Dorothy, Lois, and my mother.  Between then and 1960, she stayed the most with us.  She didn't get along with Dorothy's husband, Lois was her favorite daughter, my mother was her least favorite, yet she stayed the most with us. I loved her dearly and syill miss her.

You were lucky to spend time with a grandmother you loved.

Yep, saw that this morning. I'm afraid we're going to be seeing a lot of more of these announcements as the weeks go on. There are a couple of wonderful mom & pop places here that are at least as original and authentic as Stan's Donuts, and it will be sickening if they have to fold.

After I noticed all those price increases for cat food on Amazon, I placed an order with Chewy.com last Tuesday.  It took eight days to fill the order and ship it, but it took only two days to get here from California, and I am very happy to have it and ecstatic about the prices!

I always liked Chewy.com.  It is nice to know they have stayed honorable during these times.

Chewy.com did well for us on our last order of Poe's probiotic and a case of food we get for Mikey to keep the shipping free. They'd always shipped in, like, one day in the past, and this time they took a couple of additional days (which they announced beforehand so we'd know), but the package still arrived the day after they shipped. They're a good company.

It will be very sad if they fold.  We are hoping the best for our local coffee shop.

Stan was close to retirement,  still I thought someone might have purchased the shop.

I had a second wind going last night, enough that I went to the LA NOW AND THEN video and watched all of Act 1. I'm thoroughly enjoying it in spite of the shortcomings of the video. It's great to revisit the songs I'd already seen, but especially in the context of the entire show.

I just have to say right now that the wrestling scene is one of my favorite things ever. I'd been looking forward to seeing it again, and once again, my proverbial jaw practically hit the proverbial floor at the brilliance of everything and everyone involved in this staging. I can't even imagine the preparation, both individual and collectively, that went into it. BK should win an award for this one alone.

There's a lot I need to get done around here today, so it will be late this afternoon or this evening before I can watch Act 2. More later.

I've never actually seen THE MOUSE THAT ROARED. Or read it. (I used to have, might still have, the movie tie-in paperback of it.) I think I started watching it once or twice, probably on VHS, but never got into it. I really should see it, though, for Peter Sellers and Jean Seberg.

Book Woman of Troublesome Creek?

Yup. Blue bookwoman of Kentucky. It was the first draft of the Patsy Cline song.

Just so you know:

Now that Mercury has moved out of shy, introverted Pisces and into outspoken Aries, it’s time to say exactly what’s on your mind. The Ram is the sign that doesn’t get bogged down with the details, making the upcoming weeks more fast-paced!

This energy is about opening the lines of communication wide and giving us the confidence to talk to anyone about anything. Speaking without thinking is a danger of this transit, but between Mercury’s quick pace and Aries’ bold aggressiveness, it might be quite a while before you even realize you’ve offended anyone. Luckily, today’s transit is accompanied by enough bursts of brilliance to inspire you to keep going.

Here is the third part of the College Bowl in which Agnes Scott College from Georgia took on Princeton College....

You can watch all three parts - but this is the exciting conclusion.

All the Jean Seberg talk here makes me want to listen to the Jean Seberg bootleg I bought but haven’t listened to. I hear it was not top drawer Marvin Hamlisch.
