I just found this on another website:

Quote
barratry
n. creating legal business by stirring up disputes and quarrels, generally for the benefit of the lawyer who sees fees in the matter. Barratry is illegal in all states and subject to criminal punishment and/or discipline by the state bar, but there must be a showing that the resulting lawsuit was totally groundless. There is a lot of border-line barratry in which attorneys, in the name of being tough or protecting the client, fail to seek avenues for settlement of disputes or will not tell the client he/she has no legitimate claim.
Which doesn't explain why I regularly see lawyers advertising on television, trying to dredge up this kind of business.  The Worker Compensation industry is plagued with this kind of lawsuit...and too many WS insurance companies are buckling into, and therefor under, the trumped up claims.

Tomorrow we're taking Peggy to the vet, so that she can be fixed.

I made a joke to der Brucer about the Ronco Slice-and-Dice...and he didn't get it.

Good idea, DRGINNY....I am playing my Girl Next Door cd's, too.

Camarata invented the "Annette" sound that was used for many vocalists afterwards.

Jane, the Caitlyn clip from Calvary television is very big. I watched on a break at the office where I have a high speed connection. I think on a dial-up (if I recall correctly, you're on dial-up) it would either take a VERY long time to begin or it might not play at all.

I, too, find Brian Regan funny.

Interesting that we're talking about comics today.  I got an email from a former screenwriting student of mine when I taught for 8 weeks at LA Film School.  This guy wrote a wonderful script and was one of only two people that I felt would go anywhere.  Anyway, his email was to inform that he is directing his first TV episode of The Gilmour Girls.  I think he has also been a re-occuring character on that show...as the coffee guy or something.

Anyway, his name is Jackson Douglas and he is a fine, witty, talented fellow who wrote the best script in my class which was terrific, funny, and smart.  So I wish him well.  He also happens to be married to Alex Borstein, formerly of the Mad Show, and now doing the voice of the wife on THE FAMILY GUY.  She has a very entertaining website.  www.alexborstein.com

George, darn the "Antiques Roadshow” is only on PBS.  Unfortunately we don’t get a decent picture on our station.  :(

I plan on taping all three Portland episodes.  I could send you a copy...if you're interested. ;)

Doesn't that include all the "boy bands" of recent years???

Jacarandas are a tree (or bush, sometimes) with emerald green foliage.

I've little doubt that Tomovoz knows about them, as well.
Indeed he does.. Too cold where we live for them to survive. They do grow successfully in Melbourne but we are "in the hills". Beautiful trees indeed.

Jacarandas are a tree (or bush, sometimes) with emerald green foliage.  Twice a year, it blooms with the most gorgeous lilac blue blossoms, which can be quite messy if you park your car underneath one of them.  The spring bloom is lovely, before the foliage has grown in, but in the fall it looks like lilac clouds floating in the green, and is spectacular.

Since they are frost sensitive, we won't be seeing them here in Delaware.  But when they're in bloom in Los Angeles...WOW!

I've little doubt that Tomovoz knows about them, as well.

pretty!~! Alas not in New York either!!

DR CP - what a great site!  Thanks for the Alex Borstein link.  She is sorely missed on MAD Tv....as are several people this season.  I wish more people would watch it.  I haven't watched SNL since I discovered MAD Tv many seasons ago.

I've been invited to see a staged reading of a musical this evening.  I'm going, but I'm VERY afraid I've seen this thing before, about four or five years ago - the author had asked me to record it, and I politely told him (after seeing it) that it "wasn't ready".  He's been working on it since, and I think has a staged reading every year.  I remember it being fairly hopeless, but we'll see what he's done to it.

Vixmom thank you for the fresh air vibes.

JRand thanks for picture and story.

SWW you found a beautiful picture of the Jacaranda tree.

Ben we are on a satellite connection that doesn’t always work, but that wasn’t the problem.  Keith said we don’t get RealTime, or whatever it’s called.

I could be wrong, but the lilac of Jacarandas and the yellow of Forsythia would probably clash.   :'(

I love forsythia in bloom.  That brilliant yellow really pops out whether it's sunny or cloudy.  And because it's relatively cheap and easy to propagate, it's everywhere.  The state highway people here in PA and in NJ use it to line the roads all over the place.  My mom has it all along the fences in the backyard
