As for stand-up comics...

Ditto.

:)

In a very random order...

Early Joan Rivers - I think the decline of her comedic routines is inversely proportionate to her plastic surgery procedures.

Rosie O'Donnell - Her one and only HBO special is still one of my favorites.  And although it may not be to everyone's liking, I do have to say she had a fine sense of when to use and not use an expletive, and which one to use.

Margaret Cho - Even though most of her "comedy" is more like one funny-serious-political-funny-touching-etc.- etc.-etc. monologue.

...And a bunch of other people who's names I can't recall right now... But I have their faces in my head...

As for Jerry Seinfeld...  I think he's funny, but I've never found him tummy-aching funny.

DR Matt H - I liked John Kassir too.  -And he's in the current Showtime Reefer Madness too.  I remember hearing that he went through the usual bad agent, bad representation crap after his Star Search win, and that accounts for him not being as famous as one would like.  Additionally, the whole "Star Search" label was not exactly looked upon favorably by everyone in the biz.

RE: Three Guys Naked from the Waist Down

I did this show at my alma mater the year after I graduated.  I came back to work on it.  It was a true labor of love from day one.  It was an all-guy crew - myself, the director, and the three guys.  And my three guys were amazing performers and wonderful people - and still are.

At the time we had tried to contact Michael Rupert to see if he would be interested in writing an additional musical sequence to "update" the show, but we had no luck at the time.  However, the only real edit we had to do was one verse of "Heroes"  - the references to Che Guevara, among others, just weren't ringing true for our guy.  ;)

One of my favorite memories of that whole experience was when we arranged to take pics on the roller coasters at King's Dominion (now Paramount's King's Dominion).  We needed the slides for some of the transition sequences.  I got to come along for the ride - literally.  It was a blast being escorted to the front of the line time and again.  And each night during the show, I ended up making a sort of secret cameo appearance during the projections.

OH!  And the first night that the guys tried on their drag outfits.... WOW!!!!  -And then the subsequent fittings!  *And, "strangely" enough, due to the number of drag queens in Richmond at the time, it was actually sort of easy for the costumer to buy large-sized pumps and high heels at the local department stores.  ;)

Postscript:  When I worked on Michael Rupert's new show - we did a workshop at the American University and the Kennedy Center - I asked him about updating Three Guys, and he said he still gets inquiries about doing that, and that people are still interested in producing the show.  So...

Oh, and he, too, has no idea what happened to Jerry Colker.  ???

Postscript 2:  Hearing Michael Rupert sing a verse of "Heroes" in a rehearsal room accompanying himself at the piano...  :)

On DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, Andrew's analogy of usually liking vanilla ice cream but occasionally liking chocolate suggested to me that he's bisexual. And his little dip in the pool with Justin some weeks back seems to confirm it.

However, I have thought all along that he was a budding sociopath, and now after listening to him with the priest, I think there's no doubt about it.

Rosie O'Donnell was also a part of Star Search that same year that John Kassir won (and was beaten by Sinbad in the semifinals).

Enjoyed DEADWOOD quite a bit today. I couldn't believe Walcott just let Charlie Utter beat him up like that without even making a pretense of defending himself. The man has some serious self-hatred issues. I half expected him to cut his own throat while he was shaving. And with Al's continued improvement, the gears are grinding again for crosses and doublecrosses throughout the camp.

Calamity Jane has certainly been given short shrift this season.

"Sinbad" -- Now THERE's a contemporary comedian who never elicited a chuckle out of me.  Not funny at all, IMO.

I enjoyed the comedy albums of Cosby and Pryor and Carlin.

I liked Flip Wilson, too.

That bad image on MISS MARPLE last night must have been a national broadcast  problem because it happened here, too. Consequently, I didn't get to see it. I'll look for a rerun this week. We have three local PBS stations.

I liked the Smothers Brothers enormously as a comedy/music act. I have several of the albums they made in the 1960s, and they are still hilarious. They were also singers with nice voices and wonderful blend.

I have wondered about Jerry Colker myself.

He was in my class of Lehman Engel's BMI Workshop the first day--someone I noticed because of his, uh, visually appealing traits.  Then he never came back.  I think because he got a part in Pippin.  When I saw it some months later, with Michael Rupert in the lead, Jerry was playing Lewis, althought the IBDB doesn't list him.

According to IMDB he wrote for "Growing Pains".  His latest movie acting work is listed as 1991.

Calling Mr. Kean.

And btb, WTHI Jessica Skerritt?

I loved the aural theatre Lily Tomlin created on her comedy albums, particularly her Modern Scream LP.  They are terrific to listen to with earphones.  Likewise, The Fireside Theatre.

That's a great photo of Bogie, Jane....but I don't see your kitty's cell phone anywhere.

Are you sure you posted the right photo?  Which paw does he carry it in???

DR WFO - Umm, yes, Jerry Colker - at least in the pics I've seen of him, was/is visually appealing.

That's stretching it.

Went to Richie's today for dim sum.

There were three of us, and now we are so full we could bust a collective gut!

Such wonders -- siu mai, Shanghai dumplings, shrimp with rice noodle, bbq pork w/rice noodle, stuffed eggplant, sticky rice (wrapped in lotus leaves), a mango/shrimp concoction...yum.

Great pictures from DRLAURA and DRJANE!

Barratry is a plague in this country.

I enjoy many of the comics already mentioned:

Ellen, Wanda Sykes, and Roseanne in her Domestic Goddess stage.

Someone not mentioned already is The Amazing Jonathan!

Great clip of Caitlynn - she sounds like she's doing a pretty job on your song MR BK!  But she's using a LOT of props!  LOL....
