I don't know if any of you remember the story some time back about the little boy who said "Wow!" at an orchestral concert after the orchestra finished a rousing piece.

I don't know if I was aware of all the details at the time. but apparently the boy was autistic, and up to that point had been mute, so his spoken "wow" was a true milestone.

In any case, an acquaintance of mine in the Twin Cities metro, a poet, interviewed the boy's family, and some of the musicians involved, and wrote a children's book based on the incident, and he was just informed that the book has been picked up for publication by a division of Simon &  Schuster!

I think that's pretty cool.

Made a hot Reuben dip. Pretty darn good. And easy.

Finishing up the David Mamet movie, Edmond. Not a fan. And it’s not a comedy. It’s not helping.

If a magic genie were to suddenly appear and grant me wishes, my first would be that anyone throwing trash out of their car would find it magically whisked away before it hit the ground and piled up on their own doorstep.

I am impressed by the scenic design for An American in Paris. Spare, elegant, and beautiful.

I really miss being near mom, especially at the holidays. We had a baking tradition. Over a concentrated two days, we made approximately 200 dozen cookies of about 6 or 7 types, plus chocolate bark and cranberry nut bread. When I moved away, she gave me a hand-made book with all the recipes.

Sad to say, I just haven't felt like making them without her.

After two days of R&R I figured I'd better do some cleaning and laundry, so that's what I've been doing.

LA County is trying to make free Covid testing available throughout the county. A very good idea, IMO. I'm sure there are many people who are really worried that they have it. You shouldn't need to go through your doctor--particularly since so many of use are considered ineligible for a doctor's appointment. But why did it take us so long to get here? Possibly due to not enough test kits. Or other factors.

I can't take depressing family dramas anymore. I'm taking the unwatched ones back to the library today.

I know what you mean. I was reading Tana French's FAITHFUL PLACE a couple months ago. Talk about a dysfunctional family! Ms French is a very capable writer, but I could only take so much of it. I had to abandon it, something I don't often do, particularly with a good writer.

Just so you know:

Neptune goes direct in the sign it rules, compassionate Pisces today, enhancing your intuition and bringing out your spiritual side. This special pairing can lead to emotional healing and give you clarity about topics that can really make a difference in your life.

Thanks for the report.

Back from The Test, which was quick and easy, thankfully.  We go there about twenty minutes early - but there was only one car ahead of us just finishing up.  While we were pulling up to the window another car came behind us - I assume they were the appointment before us but they took us anyway.

Was it free?

Very nice. I hope your friend receives benefits financially as well as from the gratification he receives. And perhaps he'll write other stories.

The play's an urban nightmare.  I never knew it had been filmed.

The movie is also on YouTube.  I'm waiting on the sequel, which was released in London this month, A Christmas Gift from Bob.

I was hoping that the holidays would be a more subdued affair this year, given that so many people are out of work and so many have lost loved ones. Not so. Retail sales are strongly up over last year, but it seems to be concentrated in the big retailers. In-store sales, of course, are lagging, but online sales are way up.Target's online sales are up 155%! I hope that small businesses see some of that, too. I suspect that many families are using some of the money that didn't go to vacations, meals out, movies, etc to buy more Christmas presents. It's good for the economy, but I'd like to see it more widespread.
