Back from the thing, which, as you may have surmised, was our shoot of Doug's playlet. We began right at five, diving into all the scenes where the lead gal is young - most people who are doing these are doing them more as plays, with a wide master, then coverage and stuff. That was never going to be in the cards for me, since it doesn't interest me. But the play is a memory play that goes back and forth between an older lady giving an interview, and her memories of what she's talking about. So, we shot all the young scenes first. I'd already figured out most of the shots with the idea of simplicity, since each show has five hours to shoot. All the young scenes are two characters, save for two, where there's the third character of their teenage kid. I got not too wide two-shots and close-ups, one of which I was able to shoot with a second camera while getting the wide shot, which really saved time. Then we shot the reverse close-up for each of those little scenes. It all went very smoothly.
Then we took about a twenty-minute break to get her in the older makeup and costume. Then we shot those five short scenes, with a two-shot and two close-ups. I also did two special angle shots, which I think will work well, and several inserts. Hopefully, it's everything. We did the whole thing, including the twenty-minute break, in three-and-a-half hours.
