I went out today for some Italian take-out. The little enclave of restaurants and stores was dead. Very few people out. When parking is easy you know there's something wrong. The restaurant I sought was open, though, with only a few others picking up their take-out. It may be necessary, but it's devastating.

I've thought about grilling hot dogs in the skillet - how do you do it, and more importantly, how do you know when it's fully cooked.

Listened to Strauss's Elektra, which wasn't as instantly likable as Salome.  Orchestrations are lovely, of course, but it seems like it's almost all recitative with no real big tunes - but I'll listen again.  Cast is great - Nilsson and Resnick star, and while Solti is one of my least favorite conductors of orchestral music, he seems much more at home in opera.  This is on Decca and sounds great.

I just put these in a small frying pan and cooked without water or anything over medium heat. Every few minutes I turned them and enjoyed how they gradually got a little blistered on the outside like in the hot dog rotisserie at a movie theater. It's fully cooked whenever you think you're ready to eat it. :)  I like mine pretty well done.

In the summer I generally go outside and grill them, literally, on the grill, till they have a nice char and some serious blistering going on.

I think next for indoors I'll try steaming them, something else I don't believe I've done at home.

Day has been nice and relaxing.  Bought two little bite-sized cake things at Gelson's - ate the first one a couple of hours ago - strawberry shortcake, and am eating the coconut slice now - put a candle in it, made a wish, blew out the candle, so hopefully the wish will come true.

I then watched another production of Hansel and Gretel - the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden 2008.  If I thought the Peter Jones abomination was an abomination I honestly am at a loss for words with what I just watched, but I'll save it for the notes.

My original plan had been to take a long walk and get a treat from Savona's.  After 2 long birthday calls it was getting late, plus I really wasn't up to it.

Good thing we didn't take the longer walk as Craig called right after we returned home.

Forty years ago today John Lennon was assassinated.  He was my favorite Beatle.

I remember reading that there was going to be a (made-for-TV?) movie about John Lennon and his assassination.  They had to fire the original actor playing John Lennon because he had the same name as his assassin! :o

At least, that's what I remember.

i remembered it as the main character in Great American Hero sitcom having the same name as the assassin

I put them in a skillet with a little water and let the water evaporate and then keep rolling them around the skillet until they’re browned

I've spent quite a bit of time "liking" the over 700 birthday posts - they were split this year between regular posts and people posting on the baby picture.

But probably mist how you all welcome my Vixter and the support you showed her when 15 year old Vixter came home to find a notefrom her dad that he as in the hospital with me as I was being prepared for emergency gall bladder surgery and she came here for reassurance and comfort and it was provided on abundance.

I bless you all forever for that
