Also, along the lines of what BK said about listening to operas, and what I said above about various online things that came about wholly in response to the pandemic...

I'm grateful for the considerable number of MET telecasts I've been able to catch, thanks to their continuing free nightly streams. There have been several times over the years that I considered becoming a subscriber, and each time, I could never justify the price. So I gratefully take what's free, and if a few of the newer things I like ever become available on disc, they'll definitely get some money from me for those.

I think I've been exposed to more musical works and more performances in general this year, certainly not just opera.

Amen. I had never seen a Strauss opera before. And I have seen a few masterpieces that were new to me.

I've subscribed to a few opera companies on YouTube:  OperaVision, LiceuOperaBarcelona, Irish National Opera, as well as theater channels like The Shows Must Go On! and National Theatre. :)

Once the fog began to lift and we could see the river, this was our view.

It was a large marine crane barge right in front of our window.

One of my big projects was to watch all of Shakespeare’s plays that I had missed in the theater. It was good to see some of the lesser known works (Two Noble Kinsman, Troilus and Cressida) as well as many of the histories. The drag queen, disco version of Troilus was one particular oddity I won’t soon forget.

Picked up lots of packages, but there are still four eBay things that are sitting in New Jersey and Maryland - it's absolutely infuriating - we're talking about almost a month for one of them.  Shame on Mr. deJoy and the USPS.

I did, indeed, DR Elmore, and thoroughly enjoyed it!  Please congratulate Josh for me.

Listening to lots of music - I cancelled the visit due to the rain - too dangerous for anyone to drive.

First it was an album of stage music by Humperdinck that was delightful.

Especially in LA where they do not know how to drive in it ;)

Now Ute Lemper's volume two of Kurt Weill songs - excellent save for the way too low mastering - this seems to be a John Mauceri "thing" and he clearly knows nothing about sound.  But this is Ute when she was in her prime - she's gotten so breathy and phony now it's almost unlistenable.

The river was busy today.  We often see barges, however, today we saw a tandem barge.

We had a doozy of a storm last night. A bit of thunder and lightning, but HEAVY rain and wind. I was surprised there was no damage here. It's raining today, too, with brief dry periods. I wanted some tacos and just needed to get out, so I did a taco run and mailed a couple letters, then came right home.

Another positive thing for the year is that I have not lost anyone to covid.  I hope that does not change.

This past week, Mom discovered that her most favorite cousin, a woman who took us on a tour through southern Germany and Austria, died from covid a few months ago. She knew Friedela had died, just not the cause.
