Watching WALK,  DON'T RUN....interesting location shots of Tokyo, and Miiki Taka from SAYONARA trying to do comedy.  Samantha Eggar is beautiful, but I think she needed a stronger director than Charles Walters to be funny rather than irritating.  She seems to have caught the Maggie-McNamara cutes.

BAD DAY AT BLACK ROCK is another DVD to put on my list.  Anne Francis and John Ericson.....pre Honey West....as brother and sister.  And again I have to say that the fate of Anne's character floors me....shocking.

I love Anne Francis....her television work....and other movies including DREAMBOAT and THE SATAN BUG.

Some friends and I saw her do the stage play STEEL MAGNOLIAS in Chicago MANY years ago, BJWB.  She played M'Lynn, and her last scene when she is talking about the death of her daughter brought the house down....grown men were crying!  And she is still (although enhanced) a beauty....and that voice.

Well, I'm back from the office on 14th Street and a session about the Act One Finale to BABES IN TOYLAND:  I believe the finale as it currently exists, like the Act Two Finale, is a later rewrite for the amateur-stock and German productions, post-1903, and I needed to wend my way through the orchestra score, which is not entirely in Victor Herbert's hand, with my amanuensis Tom Murray and the 1903 copyright libretto in an attempt to get back to the original.  It was a noble failure.  Our next stop is the Victor Herbert Collection at the Library of Congress to look at the unidentified manuscripts in the hopes we'll identify a few items.

It was a weird night of dreams as well.  My chief antagonist on the Herbert/Kern project was a major factor in one of them, and that was an ill omen.  I also dreamed aboout Goodspeed and THE BOY FRIEND, so it was a relief when the alarm went off at 6:30 this morning.

Now to work on my desk.

The McDonalds 5 minutes from house that they tore down has been rebuilt as a Parc Ronald McDonalds with 2 stories and a McCafe.  It is insane.  I went to check it out for the first time today and it was like a zoo.  Not only that but they were no parking spots in the parking lot. :(

I am curious to head back and try the cafe.  Has anyone tried any coffees from a McCafe? I'm really curious about the mocha fraps and the iced drinks.

The operas that I ushered for last night were just okay.  It was a local production.  The singers themselves were pretty good (the chorus was rather small and didn't do much acting...they all just stood there and sang) but the physical side of the production (sets, lights, etc.) was very simple.  The rather small audience that was there did enjoy it.  They responded quite favorably to the casts and the performances, so I'm sure the performers were happy.  Nothing worse than a dead audience. :-\

After that, I came home and watched the DVD to BK's very own What If?, starring MBarnum's hunk-a-hunk-a, Paul Haber.  It's just so much fun!  BK, what's the possibility of Kritzerland Records releasing a complete (if not original ;) ) cast recording??  It's a wonderful show with wonderful songs.  It deserves to be heard by more people!

Good Morning (barely)!

This has been a Wussburger Weekend all the way around.  Yesterday's busy schedule included:

     1)  Going to brunch
     2)  Reading BK's notes
     3)  Reading yesterday's posts
     4)  Posting
     5)  Sleeping

Today is turning out to be just as jampacked as yesterday, although I am off to see a performance of THE NERD this afternoon.

Danise, thank you so much for asking.  You are always so good about asking how others are feeling.  Perhaps you and Nurse Jane should open a clinic together?  Actually, my neck is better, most of the time.  It isn't that I have really recovered; I think I have just gotten used to not moving my nead and neck certain ways.

TCB how sweet of you to include me when I haven't inquired about your neck lately. :-[

I hope you regain mobilty in the near future. :)

Sitting here trying not to head trip myself but am afraid I'm not being as successful as yesterday.  it's completely ridiculous - I just slept so weirdly and my throat was so dry this morning - oh, well, you know what, what will be will be.  Send vibes and xylophones, do not abate.  Meanwhile I think I've got to get out of here and get my mind off the voice box.

SWING TIME was also on yesterday on TCM.  The nice thing about having seen films like this so many times,  I can come in mid-way or leave mid-way and not feel I've missed anything.  I had it on while I was doing several errands and whatnot around the house.  I'd check in for a number or bit I particularly liked and then press on with my affairs.

I'm up and working on this Rhetoric paper. I will be very glad when I'm finally done with this term paper season. Only this one and then IAAAAWWOTD and all I have to worry about will be the finals.

My favorite guy groups are Forever Plaid and The Four Aces.

Is this a slow news day here at haineshisway.com?

And now - Dino at the piano.

Really, let's all make a concerted effort to get off our butt cheeks and have a decent posting day.  I need reading matter for my mental delectation.

Just had Taco Bell for luncheon, and am thinking about what sort of sweet treat I shall have later in the afternoon.

I see people just sitting on their well-worn butt cheeks.  For example, there is Sandra, who will still probably try and tell us she's doing her term paper that she's been doing for the last five weeks.

For example, there is Ann, watching from on high at her Boot Hill perch.

For example, there is S. Woody White, probably cooking up some venison rather than posting.

I'm sorry BK, but all I have to post is that I'm still working on this paper and I'm running low on Cherry Coke.

I think I finished the end of Act One of whatever I'm writing.  It is so hard to tell how long it is in this wacky Final Draft playscript format.  Has anyone used this format, and if so, how long does an act usually run, page-wise?

In any case, I must now go back through it and add about ten pages of dialogue, I think.  I was just trying to barrel through and now I must smooth out the rough edges and add more chatter.
