We read a lot that year. Sophocles (Oedipus Rex), Shakespeare (Merchant of Venice), Lord of the Flies, A Separate Peace, Little Big Man and Frances Bacon’s essays are all I remember now. But in those English classes, we read at least 20 books a year.

Our high school (not sure which class, I'd have to look it up) did OUR TOWN. That was practically a rite of passage then.

The other play I always remember them doing was PYGMALION.

I don't know that I realized until the end credits that News of the World was based on a Paulette Jiles novel. She lives a couple of hours away near Utopia, Texas. Given how accurate details of the area were, it should be no surprise.
