Interview with Diane McBain went splendidly! What a classy, beautiful lady! Fun stories about Joan Crawford, Elvis, Claudette Colbert, and the Warner Bros. publicity machine (JRand54, don't believe anything you read in those old movie magazines! LOL!).

Ms. Diane McBain

Watching Kerwin Matthews in THE DEVIL AT 4 O'CCLOCK.  Oh Spencer Tracy and Frank Sinatra are in it, too.

Until someone can come up with a system that makes colorized images look natural (and that day can never come; I would think it's technically impossible), I will always have the smug satisfaction of knowing that what they're looking at is inferior in every respect. But if they like that muddy, weird looking color image, let them have it.

Sadly, I read this morning that Fox is planning on three more Shirley Temples in the fall - well, two new ones to DVD and one repeat (HEIDI, CURLY TOP, and LITTLE MISS BROADWAY) - and they're going to be colorized versions only. (As terrible quality as the first three Fox/Temple DVD films were, they did at least offer the choice between colorized and original B&W).

That Shirley Temple/Fox colorization job was one of the worst I have ever seen.  I agree with DR MATTH.  I think I bought one that I couldn't find on VHS in the original b/w many years ago, and never bought another.  ugh!

I finshed up THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, finshed disc 4 of ANGEL Season 2, and put in MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS to watch on the new TV and player. The image is very sharp, but the Technicolor is still not as deeply saturated as I would have thought the original would have been. Seems like on my old set, the Technicolor gets a little richer as the film proceeds.

I did read that one of my all-time favorite movies is coming to DVD this fall - Stanley Donen's TWO FOR THE ROAD. I'm sure Fox will do a smashing anamorphic transfer with this.

HUSH HUSH SWEET CHARLOTTE is coming this summer.

I'm here, I'm here.  Start spreadin' the news.

Getting into the city was incredibly fast, but unfortunately, they are doing street work on 47th and it was a mess - backed all the way up to Madison.  So, it took about twenty-five minutes to get from Madison to Broadway.  But, I'm here, I'm checked in, ye olde laptop is hooked up to the high-speed Internet and I've already caught up on the posts.

Hello, fellow dear readers. Today was planting day at the church. We planted from 6 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., when the heat got to us. It is now 105F outside.

We will be holding our first church function in the building tomorrow -- one of the members who had been working very hard on the building passed away during surgery while I was gone.

I'm glad to see that BK has arrived safely in NYC.  Wish I could be there for dinner at Joe Allen tonight - have fun everybody!

DR elmore - are you taking it easy this afternoon so you can enjoy tonight's sparkling event?

I also watched the Daytime Emmys last night.  I thought it was quite boring.  Many of the people I wanted to win didn't win.  The only two awards I was really happy about were Greg R. and Christian LeBlanc from Y&R.  They are amazing (and won Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor).

One question, why the heck did Il Divo sing?  They are very nice.  But what does that have to do with Daytime Emmys?

It's been beautiful in NY today. Right now it's in the 70s with sun. I am looking forward to dinner later tonight. If we have more that two hours of fun, we will have to move the festivities to another location (BK's hotel room maybe)

I love Louis Botto's At This Theatre, a wonderful book with histories of the surviving Broadway theatres. I know there are a couple of other books with stories and pictures of many more of the Broadway theatres that no longer exist but I don't have those books.

Quite pretty out.  And not hot (and not cold).  My understanding as I left LA was that LA was in for a rather stultifying heat wave.

Just spent the day in Central Park. It is sunny and pleasant, with the occasional light chill if you are out of the sun when the breezes hit. Hopefully it will not rain!

Jane- Carvel's is not bad, but not sort of bland in flavor. I do like their Flying Saucers though. Also, there aren't that many Carvel's in the city.
Lately, Baskin-Robbins seems to be making a comeback. Coldstone Creamery is really making a push, and there's always Ben and Jerry's.

Good to see BK has arrived safe and sound.   :)

I just got home from seeing the new Star Wars movie and doing the shopping.  I won't lie.  I cried at the end.  I won't give it away for the rest of you but I thought it was very sad.

I need to take the dogs to check their P Mail but I will be back in a little while.

Gentlemen, have a grand time at Joe Allens!

Well hopefully the ears of all of us HHW'ers in the Hinterlands will not be burning too much as the East Coast Chapter meets this evening.
