We're back from a little trip to Cincinnati, where we picked up DS Rob to come home for his friends' graduation party tomorrow.  Did some shopping (I bought OCR's of Mamma Mia and Wicked) and stopped at my mom's to have ice cream with her and my sister and her husband, who are visiting from Michigan.

DR elmore - with all that Tylenol with Codeine, you're probably in a VERY good mood now  ;D

DR Jane - yes, I was quite relieved to get the email I did from my manager.

DR Danise - I was in NYC last year at the same time Jane was and the weather was glorious.  I did need a jacket in the evenings.

DR Tomovoz - Beautiful birds - are they yours?

DR JRand - I fondly remember the Indy 500 festivities from when I was a kid.  My grandmother and my mother's sister lived in Indianapolis in the late '50's and early '60's.  Maybe '62 we were there for the whole week and went to the parade.  My parents and my aunt and uncle went to the race while Grandma and I stayed home with my baby cousin.  The only race I ever attended was the year ('66?) there was a big crash on the start and they had to restart single file.  Nobody was hurt, fortunately, but it was scary and happened right in front of where we were sitting.

DR Ginny. The birds are wild. I am a believer in non-caged birds.  They are not tame - just trusting.
A pair of King Parrots which are native to this area of Australia. Not all of our feathered visitors can be hand fed, but there are usaully a few who are prepared to "cross the line".

Boy, was THE BEST OF EVERYTHING filled with bad acting! Everyone knows Suzy Parker was no Meryl Streep, but one can see why Robert Evans turned to producing, too. He's ghastly. I had forgotten how sudsy this actually is! Parker's character becomes a stalker,etc.

Ah, me, how a broken heart can make people do crazy, outrageous things. How innocent those times were!

Another wonderful COLD CASE in HD tonight. This one revolved around the House Committee on Un-American Activities. What a terrible period in our history!

And I love both THE FRONT and GUILTY BY SUSPICION that deal with the period, too.

DR MBarnum, I've been recording THE GREEN HORNET from Encore Action the last two weeks. Last week we even got to see Van Williams' hairy chest when the Green Hornet was shot. This week, no such luck!

Also enjoyed a couple of ANGEL episodes on DVD once I finished THE BEST OF EVERYTHING. Now, I need to think about what to watch tomorrow when I will have pretty much an uninterrupted day of DVD watching.

Earlier this week, DR Ron Pulliam mentioned to me the upcoming 4-disc DVD release of BEN-HUR, and I thought when he mentioned it that I wouldn't be interested since I've only watched the previous BEN-HUR DVD release once since I bought it.

But today I read that on the third disc in this new set is going to be the silent BEN-HUR with Ramon Novarro, and now I'm kind of interested in getting this.

DRGINNY - remember that all the local television shows...the cartoon and movie hosts, including Frances Farmer, used to do LIVE broadcasts from the Speedway AND later in the summer, everyone broadcast from the State Fair!

Tom Carnegie got sick this week and is in the hospital.  He and Frances had a fling in the 1960's when she was at WFBM.

Ah, two show days!  Fortunately, there are only two, two-show days during each week.  Unfortunately, they're back-to-back.  -When I was growing up, DC used to be mid-week matinee type of town, but not any more.  But, hey, it's work!

Dinner between shows was Thai.  I ended up joining the "black shirt brigade" at Haad Thai.  Very good meals all around.  I had some spicy chicken dish with homemade rice noodles.

Then it was off to Ben & Jerry's for dessert - a nice scoop of
"In A Crunch" in a sugar cone.  And I was able to use my "Chunk Spelunker" keychain-card for my 10% discount too!

So...  I was originally planning on meeting a friend for dinner, but since he was a no show... and didn't call... and didn't leave a message for me during dinner...  and didn't pick up the house seat which I had set aside for him... which means I have to pay for it... and still no message from him after the show...

Needless to say, I'm a bit perturbed right now...

I wash my hands...

Hopefully, I shall have some pictures to post of some of my creations that are adorning my mixing board and keyboard in the pit.  I've been averaging about three to four "folds" - figures - of origami each show.  I have been giving away some of the folds at the end of the show to some audience members, but there are a couple of folds that I'm keeping for myself for now.

DR Danise - As others have commented, NYC in October is a great time to be there weather-wise.  Not too hot, not too cold.  And if you happen to be lucky enough to be there when the trees are in full color in Central Park... Ah... Beautiful!

For some reason, I have not seen any of the circus movies mentioned.  What is wrong with me? ;)  Anyway, today I went to see "Star Wars, Episode 3:  Revenge of the Sith."  I must admit that it was pretty darned good...certainly much better than the first two Star Wars movies (first two chronologically, not the first two released).  It ties up all the loose strings and sets up everything for "Star Wars, Episode 4:  A New Hope" (a.k.a. just "Star Wars").  I can recommend it.  It's VERY action oriented.  A LOT of space ships flying and fighting and a LOT of light saber fighting.  

So, that was my day.  Now, I have to leave my home and go to the house that is being house-sat by me which also does not have a computer...or a DVD player.  I hate that.  Fortunately, tomorrow night (Sunday) is the last night that I will have to stay there.  The owners come back Monday.  The love-seat-hide-a-bed that I'm sleeping on is just not made for anyone to sleep on. :P I have to sleep corner to corner to fit.  It's just too darned short.

Tomorrow I am ushering for a local production of "Quilters."  A local church is putting it on.  I hope it's good.  But since I'm only ushering (and not paying to see it), if I need to, I can stay out in the lobby and not watch it.  But I hope that they do a good job.

That was the way it used to be in Seattle every August for the unlimited hydorplane races.  The entire week before the races all the local shows and the news shows would report live from Lake Washington.  They even covered the Driver's Meeting the night before the race, where all they ever did was draw the lane assignments.  And on race day, all the television channels and a lot of the radio stations carried the entire day of races.  It was quite a spectacle back in the 50s and 60s.  There was hope that the movie MADISON this year would revive interest in the sport.  Unfortunately, the movie stunk.  Not even Mel Gibson's Jesus could save the film (or apparently, the sport).
