I had meant to comment on TCB's question, too.

I always thought that shooting to incapacitate, but not kill, was an option that was (or used to be?) practiced whenever possible. Then several years ago I read an article that explained how actually unrealistic that is. And how unsafe, should the danger turn out to be very real. The reasons given were that aiming for a limb is way the hell harder than you might think, and that any advantage given to someone waving a real gun around can be lethal. For these reasons, the writer (who was possibly in law enforcement, but I don't remember) concluded that shooting only to wound someone is a very popular myth among the populace. Cops are trained to shoot to where it will kill, period.

But on that happy note, congrats to BK and all of us, again, on a great anniversary.   :)

And most times I do understand the reasoning, but not always.

Happy Anniversary, HHW!

I've been here for the past nine of those twenty years, and I'm sure lots of history had already gone by before I joined.

Not to mention, 9/11 had just happened when this started. That context alone is amazing to consider.

I think everyone should say how long they have been here.

I think I started posting in June 2002, so fairly early. :)

Makes me want to vomit on the ground.

But it also makes me think too many are video game trained and the goal is to eliminate problems, aka taking them out.

I figured it was because if you shoot an armed person in an extremity that they will probably shoot back.

Well, I figure that if you can't be happy at Disneyland, you probably ought to feel crappy with a booster shot.

Tuesday evening greetings!  It's been a quiet day here.  The most productive thing I've done is run the dishwasher.

I came here in 2003 after former DR JMK was always asking me trivia questions - they turned out to be questions from this here site - the person who guessed correctly got a sparkling prize.

At that time we didn't have to register and the comments were posted on the same page as the notes - and somedays there were HUNDREDS.

You could also sign your post with any name you wanted.....

Later we became the membership site we now enjoy.

I came when DR JMK finally directed me here and I brought along DR MICHAEL BARNUM and DR KURT both of whom are no longer in evidence around these here parts.

So far no bad effects from yesterday's booster.  I'm very happy about that.

True.  Of course a good sheriff in the old west would just shoot the gun out from the person's hand ;)

My profile says I registered at HHW in Jun 2013, but I know I was on here before that. I think I had deleted my account at one point and then started over. And I was gone for quite a few years in the middle. But am very glad to be back.

I watched THE ELECTRICAL LIFE OF LOUIS WAIN the other day. Interesting, but a bit uneven, I thought. A quality production, but a bit unfocused. A few years ago I probably would have loved it. I'm so picky these days!

Laura, I hope you can find something quite interesting to do in your area and enjoy that instead. I can understand feeling bummed out, though. Soooo many vacations have been put on hold due to Covid.
