After my dad turned 99, he'd said at a certain point, dying is just to be expected.

Covid changed that attitude  bit only because covid caused him and Mom to have to be separate, and he'd been hoping there would be a time when they'd be living together again.

I sent Steve many of the books, but he notoriously doesn't like to read fiction. So, I have no idea if he read Writer's Block, although it's really his kind of twisty book.

It is Saturday morning here in Johnston, South Carolina.

It's Fahrenheit 29 right now.  I am all toasty warm sitting at my computer.  I have been out of bed about 20 minutes and have not had my cup of coffee yet.

I may have left the work force in the summer of 2017, but I have not fully felt "retired" until now.  I seek new purpose.

I seek something to munch upon, with something hot to wash it down.

I have always enjoyed your stories about your trip home for the holidays.

I did as well.

There is a glitch with today's notes.

If I exit, and then come back, yesterday's notes are the ones that are up.

I know there are notes for today because I have read them.

So she opened the door and to flames and a cloud of acrid, eye watering smoke

Oh no!

My mother comforted the only grandchild still speaking to her by bitterly and loudly  complaining that her oven was destroyed and that it would cost thousands of dollars and take months to replace and that all the rooms in the house would have to be repainted and the furniture would all smell like smoke forever and have to be thrown out

:(  Is this why the Vixter is the only grandchild still speaking to her?

Once the smoke cleared out everyone came back in and the rest of the guests actually comforted Vixter by telling stories of holiday disasters and assuring her things were not as dire as a certain someone was saying

Sweet.

I have been reliably informed that the house and furniture  does not smell of smoke, there are no smoke marks on the walls and the oven works just fine

I expected as much.

I myself did not join them as I did not wish to spend the rest of my life in prison for the crime of matricide.

I did think about y'all on Thanksgiving Day, figuring you were having such a wonderful time with everyone there that there's no way you'd be getting a minute to log in.

Well, I was on the right track.   :D

We got The Best vegetable box today. Everything I need to make soup and salad for the next week, probably. Which is just what I need after Thanksgiving.

I shall do some thinking and writing about Mr. Stephen Sondheim later today.....

But I did get this almost 30 years ago.

Great story, Vixmom. Congratulations on restraining from ridding the earth of another pestilence.

After two episodes and despite the presence of Cloris Leachman, I have given up on American Gods.

So, what will happen with Sondheim's unused score for the movie Sing Out Loud? Will someone rework it for the stage?

As soon as I finish lunch, I think I'm headed for a nap. I may do some Christmas shopping this afternoon.
