Starting to watch Bergman's film version of The Magic Flute. The local revival house used to show this every Christmas Day and I would  escape the family drama/trauma into a Mozart wonderland.

I really love this film.
It never fails to lift my spirits.

In thinking about those various beloved pieces I've been too frantic to watch or listen to over these past few weeks, I realize what a big part they play in keeping one in the spirit of things. Well, it's never to late to jump in.

We're not getting The Tragedy of Macbeth this weekend. I don't know whether to go to West Side Story or Red Rocket, which I hear is really good and set in Texas.

Christmas Eve greetings from Charlotte’s house!  Our responsibility is to keep her occupied while her parents bake and wrap.  It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it.

I would like to watch Hansel und Gretel. Is there a good version on YouTube?

My favorite remains the Met DVD with Judith Blegen and Fredrica von Stade, but I don't see it on YouTube. I like this filmed version, but BK did not, as I recall.

DR JohnG, I missed this PBS broadcast, but the Juilliard School of Music production designed by Maurice Sendak looks like fun!

I'm up, I'm up - six and a half hours of sleep. I'll go do the two errands shortly and then begin cooking.

I will watch a couple online, but that is absolutely the DVD for me. Totally worth owning.

I feel so sorry for these folk whose flights were canceled. What a horrible holiday for them.

Methinks it's about time I watched Shaun of the Dead, which I never got around to seeing before, and then this new movie.

Shaun is a real hoot.

I agree! ;D

I'm terribly remiss this year. I haven't watched any Nutcracker or Amahl or Messiah. I've just listened to parts of them. Or Hansel and Gretl, but that's really nice for between Christmas and New Year's. Well, all of these are. Growing up, I used to enjoy them throughout the season, right through New Year's Day at least. So I've got some catching up to do, but I shall bask in it through the coming week.

For quite a few years, my family would always watch Scrooge, starring Albert Finney.

I've pulled the DVD of Amahl and the Night Visitors and the 1970 Canadian broadcast of Hansel and Gretel, which I've never seen. I'll watch them tomorrow.

Awww about Barnum, sorry you are wide awake.

I'm also a huge fan of the wonderful Northern Ballet production of A Christmas Carol. I love the score by Carl Davis.
