Good Afternoon!

Puttering, puttering, puttering...

I got my trains booked, my banking done... and now I think I'm going to head out to get my hairs cut.  They look all right now, but I know that in a few days, I won't be happy with them.  So...  -And I've decided not to cut them myself this time.  I'd really just like to sit back for a few in a barber chair and relax.

OK...

Have I forgotten anything else?

OH!  For those HHWers in NYC...  It looks like Monday I'll have a ton a free time, and there will be a lot of people heading into the city.  Anyone have plans for The Fourth?

MR BK mentioned The Browning Version in the notes today, and speaking of matriculation....

There is a Dean Stockwell film made when he was a "child" actor called THE HAPPY YEARS that I love.  I have only seen it a few times, but it was also about schoolboys - although I think set in the US.  Scotty Beckett and Darryl Hickman were a couple of the other boys.  And Leo G. Carroll was one of the headmasters.

I particularly remember one scene:  All of the boys decided to humiliate a young girl (children can be so cruel) - and so on one calling day - EVERY boy in the school showed up at her door.  By the end of the afternoon, the parlor was full....as each boy sat down he declared: "I have just seen Miss Maude Adams in 'Peter Pan.'  I like Maude Adams."  And then every boy in the room would say, in turn: "I like Maude Adams." .....

The girl ran from the room crying....

But other than that - it's a funny and sweet movie.  I wish I could see it again.  Directed by William Wellman....not sure...but probably TCF, maybe RKO.   :)

Have any other DRs here heard about the new opera in the works based on "The Fly"?

Howard Shore, composer of the film score, in assocation with David Cronenberg (director) and Henry David Hwang ("M. Butterfly" writer) are working on this opera.

We've discussed the opera of The Fly before - Pogue knows about it.

When season three of Doris Day comes out, not only are they including the DD version of the pilot I did for her company (Young Love), they're also including the non-DD version.  It all lives on.

I love July.  It is my second favorite month of the year.  August is my FAVORITE month.

I am on my way to the theatre - back much later.

I am looking for LP's with mysterious or scary covers for the display case...

Back from getting my hairs cut... :)

I'm gonna go ahead and pack my luggage now, so that I can relax a bit tonight.  And since I'll have to be at Union Station to catch the 6:20 train to Penn Station in the morning...

OH!!

Again, for those New York based HHWers... I think what I'd like to do is head back from Poughkeepsie on Thursday morning, and then spend the night in the City, and then head back down to DC Friday afternoon, after lunch.  Sounds like a plan to me.  What say you?

Actually, I did take the quiz, and I ended up as Lt. Dangle just as vixmom did. Being as he's the one gay cop on the force, I wasn't surprised I ended up as Dangle.

Same here, DR JRand. That's why I haven't gotten the first season. In season 2 she starts commuting to San Francisco to work, and by season 3, she's living there permanently. I'll start collecting with Season 2.

Quite enjoyed TOY STORY this afternoon, but the high definition version last night was naturally just that little bit sharper and with more vibrant color. Still, the DVDs are more than excellent, and I won't be breaking any land or speed records to get a high definition DVD player until they come way down in price which will take a couple of years, whenever they're introduced. Looks like they're not going to make it by the fourth quarter of this year as Toshiba wanted.

I'm still hoping the two sides can agree on a single format.

Read this morning that Universal is releasing an Alfred Hitchcock masterpiece collection in October with all of their Hitchcock masterpieces in "new" editions. Hopefully, VERTIGO and PSYCHO will be anamorphic this time around. Otherwise, why bother?

Today is Canada Day and I will be going to see fireworks!

Last Friday was St. Jean-Baptiste Day (Quebec Day). So I got to see some then too!

But this week's show has a singing and dancing stage show first.

I just spoke to OzDerek who send his thanks.  He does not need to return to the hospital until next Friday (for scans). He is very tired and certainly physically "knocked about" by the IV treatment undertaken over the past three days.
