NAMELY JULY

Well, you've read the notes, you've jumped from June to namely July, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're still trying to get over their June bugs.

I matriculated in 1964 and I didn't go blind.

Last vinyl played (today) was Mike Oldfield's "Portsmouth"

Yup...but I'm not. ;) Actually, I need to do my bills and was going to, but I got carried away surfing the 'net (nothing disreputable!) and have decided to do my bills later today.  So, now I will say "Good Night!"

I should be asleep and yet I am not asleep.  I have that clutching stuff going on again (acid reflux?), and I feel like I constantly have to clear my throat, which drives me crazy.  I'm about to take some NyQuil - of course, I shall then be rather useless in the morning hours, but what they heck.

I'm up early as usual   All alone here at HHW. :'(

I'm listening to Steven Halpern's "Spectrum Suite," and the "Somethig's Gotta Give" soundtrack with all its great French songs.

BK-- I've never seen "Heller in Pink Tights"-- just read about it, so I'll be interested to see what you think.

Feel good, everyone.  Now, let's all go take a nap!

DR MATTH mentioned about this yesterday;

Quote
PORGY AND BESS (with Sammy Davis' numbers as bonus tracks since Cab Calloway did them on the official soundtrack)

Question for DR MATTH and/or other Dear Readers.
I watched “Porgy and Bess” on DVD a few days ago and I liked it, though, for some reason, I couldn’t give it my full attention and, finally, finished it on my third  trial.  I’m interested in a few songs in it and would like to know how many CDs from Porgy and Bess have been released so far (as far as you know), and also what your favorite /recommended one is.  I think I’ll have a CD from the opera.

JRand: Hi! No, I'm not the Indiana rep, but I might as well be for all the times I've ended up doing her work! If you ever want to call up and just talk to me instead, I can help you. By the by, I got to see the video of DR Kurt's production of MOBY DICK! the other night. He was really great as Ahab! I thought the whole production was exactly what it was supposed to be. The cast was talented, funny and "got" the show. I was very impressed.

Media Check: DVD: Wonder Woman, Season 3, Disc 1, Side A
CD (Bedroom): THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA
CD (Computer): A mix of this years Tony nominees
MP3 player: SCOUNDRELS, SPELLING BEE, PIAZZA and a compilation of other stuff
CD (work): The Tonys compilation
VHS: I believe my roommate was watching "Somewhere in Time" the other day.

Good Morning!

I'm up!  I'm up!

...I'm not sure if I'll make it back down to the LoC to join DR elmore and his friend and fellow musical-sleuther, Tom, today.  With the potential gig and travel this weekend - well, tomorrow, actually, there are a couple of things I need to take care of this morning - especially since Monday is a holiday.  In any case..  I may join them after lunch.  We shall see...

Oh, and if you haven't guessed by now, I did end up sleeping in a bit this morning.  I was not exactly tossing and turning last night, but my mind just kept going and going, figuring out travel plans, times, possible schedule changes, conflicts, etc...  However, after about an hour of all that - and realizing that my schedule is indeed clear for the next six days - and I also now know what my schedule will be once I get back - I did drift off to sleep.  So...

DR Stuart - If it happens - and I should know shortly after Noon if all the arrangements were able to be worked our/negotiated - I shall be heading up to Poughkeepsie, to Vassar.  Again, it's not that far upstate, but it is "up" of the City.

DR Hisaka - There a couple of complete recordings of Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess".  The "classic" one - among others - is the Houston Grand Opera production on RCA/BMG (I believe).  My favorite is a Simon Rattle's version for EMI/Angel - which may have been the version you watched on video.  My all-time favorite rendition of "Summertime" is on that recording - which was based on the Glyndeborne production in England.  Harolyn Blackwell just floats on those words and notes, and her slow-as-a-hot-summer-day-in-Charleston tempo is, well, amazing.

I'm sure other DRs can chime in with more details and suggestions for highlights discs if you don't want to make the investment in a multi-disc set.

Yep, the clutching sounds like acid reflux.  -And, unfortunately, the Italian food you had for dinner - and even the Nyquil - may not be the best things for it.  So...

I'd at least consult with a doctor or nurse over the phone if you can't see someone right now in person.  Maybe you should be taking something like Tagamet, Pepcid, etc.  Or even just go to Walgreen's and speak to a pharmacist.  Again, acid reflux is no fun.

MattH, the Reno gang got back on the force when it turned out that the DA was crooked and out to kill them all.  He tricked them into the desert and tried to kill them but they  in their incompetent way kept him talking until rescue arrived and gotten the DA's confession on tape.  Their insane babbling was, a la Inspector Cousteau, vieweed as excellent police work and they were all reinstated.

Unfortunately I forgot to watch this past Tuesday so I missed their first day back... I'm sure I'll be able to catch a reerun befor next Tuesday if I try hard enough.
