Don't know who his partner was or if he died, although I think he said he lived alone with his beloved dog.

So, whilst at the party, I was offered a $75 VIP ticket to the fireworks show at CBS Radford (just five minutes from the home environment).  I thought about it, but just didn't feel like going over there - in a way, I wish I'd grabbed the ticket.  However, the show began fifteen minutes ago, and, just by stepping outside of the home environment and facing east, I could see the whole beautiful affair.  Spectacular.

Oy, what a weekend.

Between Live 8, my sister's BBQ and tonight's parade/concert on the Parkway, I've been immersed in music, food, water and fireworks.  I've also survived an attack by a swarm of wasps.  But that's a story for another day...

TOD:  aside from what everyone else has mentioned, the Equus theatre poster.  Very striking!

We've had some spectacular fireworks here in the Bay Area...most of which I had to view on TV as the incoming fog bank looms rather high this evening, although it did not preclude me from making out the rockets' red glare most of the time.

Still...it's a cool, cool evening and there have been some lovely shows on with concerts...the best being from NYC, IMO....wonderful, wonderful music, including "Rhapsody in Blue" which never fails to move me to tears.

Yes, digital camera.

Home from the bbq; a wonderful time was had by all and only one piece of apple pie remains. And I won a game of Dinosaur Bingo, beating the five-year-olds.

Perhaps I'll listen to Rhapsody in Blue, too, and maybe Concerto in F.

Marsha Hunt and Frances Farmer were very close in their Paramount years.  Marsha, in fact, was the "other" finalist for the female lead in Rhythm on the Range, which was one of the 1936 films that catapulted Frances to stardom.  Years later Marsha was doing stock in Indy and was a guest on Frances' tv show.  If you Google Marsha and Frances together, there's a very nice article out there somewhere in cyberspace where Marsha speaks very highly of Frances, especially with regard to how "together" Frances was in Indy (must have been one of FF's good days, LOL).  I had no idea Marsha was still alive!

Norman Lloyd also has a FF connection, but I'll save that for another day.  ;)

In fact, BK, if you think she would like it, I'm pretty sure I have a great photo of Marsha surrounded by a gaggle of her friends (including, of course, FF and new hubby Leif) at Marsha's 1936 birthday party.  Let me know and I could email a JPEG to your host this evening who could pass it on to Marsha.  It's a lovely photo.

What did I say about no lulls?  I believe I said something about no lulls, and I'm quite certain that what I said about no lulls is that there must be no lulls and yet we have just had a one-hour lull despite some people sitting there like so much fish.

I have returned from the beach!  Pacific Beach, to be exact.  My parents (both of whom are retired) took their fairly new-to-them RV to this camp place and camped for the weekend.  They won't be back home until Wednesday.  Today (at about 9:30 a.m.), my sister, my niece and I drove the 2 1/2 hours to go there and we spent the day there.  We only took a few pictures and here's one:

That was on the beach, looking to the left.  Here's what we first saw, as we walked over the sand, facing the water:

And then, as we turned to the right (north), we saw this view:

The only other decent picture that we got of the water was this picture of someone's dog in the water:

Were there any lulls flying about the beach DR George?

The people directly in front of me in the second picture are my sister (on the left) and my dad.  Directly in front of each of them are my niece and my mom.  You can see that their shadows are different than my sister's and dad's.  Anyway, those are the pictures.
