Speaking of that darned leak, I spent several hours today doing searches and making phone calls to obtain answers to my tenants' rights questions. There are a number of organizations here devoted to it, but I was unable to speak to someone. Long wait times. Many, many people with questions and problems. I left several messages, but have not heard back from anyone. I have little hope: the housing department doesn't deal with environmental health issues and the health department, though they do deal with housing issues, doesn't seem to deal with the situation I'm in. I hope I'm wrong.

I hope you hear back from someone who can help you.

Thank you.

Good Afternoon/Almost Evening.  Nothing of note is happening.  Nice to see everyone here seems to be doing well.  Break legs on your audition tomorrow, DR George.

🤯🤯🤯Almost 5 months after ripping up the corner of our family room to deal with the mold, ServPro just told us they're "too busy" to do the reconstruction and we should find our own contractor.

Wow, DR Ginny. That is horrible. Between you and DR vixmom and DR Jeanne, we are in a sorry state for home repairs.

I don't know why I never thought of it, but I'll bet bagel croutons would be pretty darn good. In a nice bowl of split pea soup, perhaps.

I have not, DR Jane. But I should start. Except that I shouldn't be having too many carbs.

Did you read Miss Manners on croutons this week?

No! Is she in favor of them?

Found it!  Thanks for the heads up, DR John G. I didn't even know Miss Manners was still writing.

Dear Miss Manners:
I love salad, and would like to enjoy croutons on my salad, but they are the size and shape of dice and the consistency of pumice. They are impossible to stab with a fork, and nearly impossible to balance on one.

My attempts at gracefully rendering them into a more manageable size invariably go awry, sending chunks flying off my plate. I've taken to just picking them up with my fingers and crumbling them over my salad (which is also difficult!) but this feels a little uncouth.

What is the proper way to tackle a crouton? The whole thing reminds me of the ridiculous wedge salad. Salad should not be so difficult as to require more than one utensil, in my opinion.

By the way, I only have this problem at restaurants. At home, I simply enjoy my "croutons" in the form of seasoned breadcrumbs or crumbled seasoned stuffing mix.

= = = = = =

GENTLE READER: What Miss Manners doesn't understand is what is going on in the kitchens where these salads are being prepared. Have the sous chefs not tried eating their own salads?

And it's not just those croutons and the lettuce wedges, both of which could be used to play pickleball. What about the tomatoes, cut in quarters or fifths?

You are hereby authorized to ask the waiter quietly to return the salad to the kitchen to be cut into bite-sized pieces.

I wonder what Miss Manners would say about Lemon Meringue Pie Jello Salad?

Miss Manners is a riot.  So is the person who asked the question.  I don't mind cutting a wedge salad.  I usually pass the croutons on to Keith, avoiding attempts at eating them ;D

I was wondering that, too.

They told us it might be a while and most recently we were waiting for 2 estimates - one for just the corner paneling and ceiling and one for the whole room.  We kind of let it go during the holidays and last week, of course.

Then your patience is understandable, and they were honest about the initial delay.

Vibes you find a crew to do the work without much of a wait, and does a good job.

DR Ginny, did they ever leave fans to air out the mold or are you still living with mold?

Had a nice lunch at the Coral Cafe - I was good - chicken salad sandwich and coleslaw - no fries or onion rings.
