Last night I watched most of the new DVD of one of my favorite operas, The Turn of the Screw. It's well conducted by my friend John Wilson, but the production had two problems: the concept and the fact it wasn't scary.

Oh, my! :o

Just grabbed a cold Italian sub at a favorite pizza joint. They still had one of my reviews up on the wall. Nice.

That's pretty cool!

What’s your favorite Bill Nighy performance?

His monologue/scene in the Vincent Van Gogh episode of Doctor Who

We sort of inherited a lady who mowed the lawn here when the house was vacant. She also mows the empty lots across the street. She asked if we wanted her to continue. I said yes. She keeps coming. But I can’t get her to invoice us. I walked outside with cash once, she was like, “no I need to invoice you. That’s on me.” I literally can’t pay this person!

 :o

Maybe there is something she would rather have than cash.

Mrs. R might have something to say about that

DR JANE it is just a regular gas push mower....20" cut, I think.

DR RODZINSKI -  my house is on a corner....my yard measured by the houses across the street is as wide as a driveway, a front yard, and second driveway, another front yard, a THIRD driveway and about 1/4 of that front yard.....and then a side yard - to say nothing of the back yard which is average size.

It is not hilly but there is an incline toward the house from the street.....

I have to say that my brother in law almost always mows the front/side with his riding mower.  I only do it myself once or twice a year and the backyard has a small storage barn and clothesline poles and a rock garden and a deck and flowers and the Pet Semetary.....so I am not sure that a self propelled mower would be easy to use around all of those obstacles.

My mom has very oddly shaped lawn areas, not only in the front on either side of the driveway, but in the back, as well.

It's not difficult to navigate around the odd shapes and areas.

That shouldn't prevent you from considering a self-propelled mower.

I have avoided an electric mower because most of the batteries last an hour - and it takes me more than an hour to do the job.....

We shall see what we shall see.

My sister has an electric mower and she has two batteries...when the first one has run down, the second is ready to go.

The two batteries last more than long enough to mow her lawn, which is much larger than our mom's.

And lots of laundry to do

Instantly, the tune from Bye Bye Birdie popped into my head:  "I got a lot of laundry...to do." :)

How many channels did everyone have when they were growing up....before cable?

We had four channels and then five when PBS showed up in the late sixties.

WLWI was ABC, WFBM was NBC, WISH was CBS, and WTTV was an independent station.

I remember us having less than 13 channels, just the ones on the actual dial, but I don't remember exactly how many there were, or what they were.

I did not see a color photograph of Van Cliburn until he was on the cover of LIFE magazine - when I discovered he had RED hair.

I was sure that we would be married and live a lovely life in Texas, his home state.  And as I have written before I thought Van Cliburn was his last name, so I searched in vain to discover what his first name might be.

I decided that I would just call him Tex Van Cliburn when we were out on a date.

That's a great story, Jrand! ;D

Growing up in Chicagoland we had on the VHF Band
ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, WGN the big local with Bozo's Circus.

UHF had
Spanish Channel 26, WFLD Channel 32 reruns and old movies, Channel 44 reruns, cartoons and old movies until it was taken over and turned into a wavy pay-movie channel.
Channel 60 and 66. Interchangeable. One started out as a music-video channel.
And Channel 50, run out of a local high school in St. John, Indiana.
Maybe one other Spanish channel.

I don't remember ever having or watching UHF channels.

On the other hand, at the Big Apple Film Festival they're screening episode one of Sami in the Greenwich Village. I'll put the details in but I'd love someone to attend and film so I can hear the reaction. We're trying to get Sami to attend as there'll be a brief Q&A afterwards.

That would be cool.

Congratulations on your rehearsed date, JRand.

Jrand is the sitter, and the other guy the sittee, I guess.

Could this be the beginnings of a show-mance?? ;)

The 40% off always works but the five-dollar coupon code didn't, so I called  - they had no idea why so the just gave me a credit.
