I feel a Sam's Club visit is in my immediate, if not sooner, future.

I have needs that cannot be allowed to lapse over the weekend.  Most of those needs surround ice cream and my fast-dwindling supply here.

My rational self demands I look at the time it will take and whether the ride for just one item is worth the trip.  Rationally, no.   But I am ruled by my passions at times.

Rationality may be overruled.

We seem to be getting a few days of mild, but beautful, weather with temperatures "below" normal.

Instead of high 80s, low 90s, we shall have high 70s, low 80s.  I can live with that.

A comment I read years ago that has always stuck with me went something like this: "Street lamps used to be for the PEOPLE on sidewalks. Now they're for the cars on the road." A generalization, but there's much truth to it. Classic street lamps are almost a romantic thing. They welcomed and made it safer for people to be out and about, and the classic ones are lovely things.

I loved the classic ones in the residential parts of 1970s Hollywood. I even Google street-viewed a few streets recently to see if any remained. There were indeed some, but I only had a quick look at a few blocks. I don't know whether the old style ones were still prominent around my blocks (Franklin & Whitley), but I remember walking at night, particularly in areas west of Highland, and actually appreciating them, right then and there, in my twenties. That memory is inseparable from that of the smell of the trees and the air. It was my first summer there, and my senses were highly sensitive to all of it.

The one other place in earlier years that I remember classic street lamps was the one year we lived in Bexley, the lovely old suburb of Columbus, and though I was only ten years old, the look and feel of walking and bicycling around our neighborhood with its trees and classic street lamps meant something even then.

I stopped by NewsMax for a moment last night just to see what the alternate universe was saying.  Obviously the corrupt FBI and DOJ are doing Biden's bidding in bringing up these false charges - and that proves that collusion was present during the 2020 election and it's obvious that the election was stolen and that DJT must be protected and vindicated.  Send money.

They are at the corners/intersections but there are none in the long stretches in between.

They must have dilated me really well yesterday, or else it's been so long since I'd had it that I'd forgotten how many hours it takes for your vision to come back into focus.

TOD

I've started on my HARVEY journey. It won't be every movie in the book, just those that ring my bell for a particular reason (unless I've just recently watched them, which is true in a few cases). But that's still a LOT of movies; like, between 40 and 50. Starting at the beginning, I'm not seeking out Hold That Blonde or The High and the Mighty. I've seen the latter, and I reviewed a few clips online to recall the look and sound of it. But I was anxious to jump into Target Earth which I have on laserdisc and had never watched. I love that old sci-fi stuff, and watching it now was most enjoyable. And then Bad Day at Black Rock - which I've seen "a million times" but not in any recent years, and that was really rewarding. It really is magnificent, and I always forget that it has a powerful score by Andre Previn. That opening titles music, for my taste, takes its place among some of the greatest (as does Previn's Dead Ringer). That man left Hollywood WAY too soon, damn him.

Up next is Mister Roberts, which I don't have here but I think Kristi might, and To Catch a Thief for which it's high time for a viewing anyway.

Very near here, a tractor trailer hauling hogs overturned on the highway. First responders are trying to corral the swine, who got loose.

Playing a rhyming-match card game with the kids and these cards were the last pair. I was like wtf? Then I texted my neighbor who gave it to us and said “do these words rhyme to you?” Yes, she said. She is from New Zealand and got the game there. Beware kiwis bearing linguistic gifts!

By all means, and above all things, SEND MONEY!

What I have never heard any of the Conservative media explain, however, is how EXACTLY the Democrats managed to steal the red states that went for Biden.  You know...the states with Republican governors and legislatures.

Tis a conundrum inside an enigma.

After having experienced both screens, I really do like the smaller screen with more physical/tactile buttons than the larger all-touch screen.

I would have refused to buy a car with a screen like that.  Thankfully Keith also agrees with us about those large screens.
