When I got up, about an hour ago it was 58 degrees outside.

As the day has progressed, we are at a dazzlingly generous 62 degrees.  The sun is shining brightly; the reflection off the pond behind my house is a mirror image of the opposite shoreline.

We should get into the lower 80s today, and lows tonight will again dip into the 50s.  I love cool nights during the summer months.

Of course, it isn't summer for 11 more days.  I guess this summer will be quite hot everywhere.

I live in Washington albeit in an isolated adjunct part, but I have heard all you’ve heard from the same sorts of people, Ron. The speeches are so similar one can easily believe them to be the parroting of talking points learned from non-stop viewing of a particular propaganda. Older republicans fleeing Seattle and California and Portland which have become literal hells on earth. Crime out of control, drugs out of control, homeless sleeping in your yard, etc. Such is the burden of states that make an attempt to have programs for the unfortunate. Since other places make no such attempt, people go to where they might get help. An influx leads to an imbalance, sure, and a strain on resources and enforcement, sure. But it’s a lot of scaremongering and overblown by a hearty magnitude. You lived around Oakland. It’s always been a place far worse in people’s minds than in day-to-day reality. Wilmington, DE where I lived. “Murdertown” they call it. Not downplaying that there are rough areas, but it’s true anywhere. It’s easier to buy into fear, blame, flee than deal with the root causes of problems.

Amen to all that, Rodzinski.

Here in Johnston, the only channel anyone seems to watch is Fox News.   Absolutely revolting.  Their brains are being eaten away with that hate-mongering.

Yet, they remain quite civil when the subject isn't politics.  I get quite amused when I am around relatives.  They will huddle up and talk low when I am around.  They talk about the latest conspiracy theory or news flash they have heard.  My mom informed them years ago that I was a proud Democrat and that I voted for "that" Obama person.

Funny item:  When Obama won the first time, our capitol's newspaper, The State, ran a huge banner headline on page 1 -- HISTORY MADE -- with a color photo of the new first family under it.

A lot of subscriptions were cancelled that day.   That included my aunt and uncle who lived across the street.  Later on, however, subscriptions were reinstated because The State is one of three respected newspapers in SC.

I've been having major computer problems all morning. Much as I love Joshie, he's really dropped the ball on helping me purchase a new one.

He must have other pressing matters.

You say potato, I say tomato.

Having lived 9 1/2 years in "tomato Europe", I believe I say it, too.

Lawrence O'Donnell's show was quite good last night.

Among his guests, all of whom are legal experts in Constitutional law, was Professor Lawrence Tribe, professor emeritus at Harvard School of Law.

I have seen Tribe on that show many times over the past years, but last night, he seemed to be a bit more weathered than ever before.  He spoke haltingly, but precisely, and was still quite erudite and cogent.

O'Donnell, after Tribe's comments, asked him how he would grade Jack Smith's performance as a special prosecutor based upon the indictment document and Smith's brief press performance yesterday.

Tribe said that one of the perks of being an "emeritus" was that he no longer had to grade anything...but he said he believed Smith has performed superbly.
