Yesterday, Thatch, Stella and I watched Water for Elephants. I was curious about it since a musical adaptation is now playing in Atlanta. I knew nothing about the plot and I enjoyed it very much. The scenes of implied animal brutality were hard to take, and the cats and IU had tears in our eyes after the brutalization of Rosie the elephant, who deserved an Oscar nomination. I don't think I had ever seen Reese Witherspoon in a dramatic role before, and I liked her very much. I loved seeing my friend Jim Norton, and I kept wondering if the actor playing the old man Jacob was Hal Holbrook, and it turned out that it was he.
