And how outrageous that CAMELOT was denied a Best Musical nomination. In 1961, only three shows were nominated (DO RE MI, IRMA LA DOUCE, and the winner BYE BYE BIRDIE), but there was a space available for CAMELOT to get a nomination. It outran all three of the nominees, of course.

Dan (the Man)- If you haven't  yet, you should check out some of a-ha's recent albums. They still sound great after all this time, and have remained very popular in Europe. "Minor Earth Major Sky" is just a gorgeous CD.

I was pleased to find a package awaiting my return today with the first 2 Kritzerland CDs and if my phone ever  stops ringing maybe I will actually get to hear them!

Good Morning!

I'm up!  I'm up!

I slept rather well considering I don't have the most comfortable mattress in the world.  But it's a dorm room, so what can ya' do?

I need to head in a little while and run by the admin office to finish up some paperwork, and then get something to eat somewhere, and get a little practice in before rehearsal at 3:00.  We're having a read-thru/sing-thru at 6:00, so I'm guessing it would be good for me to learn a few more notes before then.

;)

As for Oscar noms...

I still wish that "A Home at the End of the World" would have garnered a Best Adapted Screenplay nom.  And that Sissy Spacek would have gotten a Supporting Actress nom too.

And in regards to the Tony Awards...

Tom Sawyer getting a nomination for Best Set Design?!?  When most of the set was one big rock?!?!?

And then there's the whole La Cage aux Folles winning over Sunday in the Park with George brou-ha-ha.  I still think Sunday should have grabbed that one.

And that's all I can think of right now...

Time to get my day in full gear.

Very weird thing just happened.  The b.f. came back from the gym having been listening to 1980's music on his ipod saying that he found a great 1980's drum beat that he really flipped over.  And (here it comes, you'll never believe it) he said "It's in a song called 'Take on Me' - have you heard the song?"

The group that recorded the song was of course A-HA.  Eerie coincidence, that.

And to get myself to post #25, I'll add that I felt Jan Maxwell should have won the Tony over Sara Ramirez this year.  (But then Jan Maxwell lives in our building and Sara Ramirez doesn't, so I may be influenced by that.)

Yes, Angela lansbury should have won at least ONE emmy.

Judy Garland should have won for STAR IS BORN.

I won't go into the people who SHOULDN'T have won.
 >:(

I will.

No way should John Wayne ever have "won" an Oscar, much less for "True Grit"...especially considering the performances given that year by Peter O'Toole, Jon Voigt and Dustin Hoffman.

I also don't think Brando's performance in "The Godfather" was as great as people pretended it was.

Sadly passed by:

O'Toole in "The Ruling Class."  No finer performance ever graced the screen, IMO.

Hiya, Gang.

I'm up at the cabin, having said farewell to both parents between July 13 and 20. Two deaths, two funerals in just under a week.

It's lovely up here, as always. I have missed it so much. Whatta year, I tell yuz.

Anyhow, it looks like lots has happened here on HHW while I've been otherwise occupied. Many congrats. So, anyhow, next Saturday the Village Theater in Issaquah is presenting a reading of David Spencer's The Fabulist, which I saw in a reading in NYC two years ago. Of course I'll attend and see how it has fared... (David Spencer teaches at the BMI Musical Theatre Workshop).

Most of you may know that Spencer's book, The Musical Theatre Writer's Survival Guide, has just come out to pretty nice reviews... I read an advance copy (a perk of being at BMI last year) and recommend it highly to composers, lyricists, book writers, as well as actors. It really is a how-to book on surviving in this industry, full of practical advice, anecdotes - all gleaned from experience, good and bad.

Well, hope we get some rain - some of the moss that covers my forest wonderland is turning brown...

Party on, friends. p

FJL: That's a tough call on Jan Maxwell/Sara Ramirez. I truly believe Jan was *the* saving grace of CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG, but I feel the same way about Sara's performance in SPAMALOT. I kept waiting for her to come out and liven things up. She had more to do - and girl can SANG! - so I feel like her win was justified.

I, too, believe that Cheyenne Jackson deserved a nomination for ALL SHOOK UP - certainly over Hank Azaria - and ALL SHOOK UP should've received a nom for scenic design as well. And Stephen Oremus deserves an award for his vocal arrangements for that show, too.

I think it's an absolute crime that "The Color Purple" didn't win any Oscars. It's a magnificent film - it deserved some recognition.

And I'll spit nails if "The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl" doesn't get a Best Picture nod this year... ;)

Now what about Big Country?  :)

Thank you !  Where are you that you are in a dorm room?  I thought you were to be settled into your new NYC digs right around now

Well... Since you asked...

July 16 - Moved to NYC. At least brought the first load of stuff up.
July 17 - Drove back to DC since...
July 18 - ...I had to play more auditions in DC.
July 19 - Drove down to Richmond at 6:30am to fetch a paycheck that had gone astray.  Drove back up to DC around 9:00.  Drove back up to NYC, courtesy of my pal, Curt.  Brought up more stuff.
July 20-22 - Auditions, Auditions, Auditions in NYC
July 25 - I bough an air conditioner for my room in NYC - Harlem to be exact, 145th and St. Nicholas.
July 25 (evening) - Got a call from Williamstown...
July 26 - Hemmed and hawed over the over the offer from Williasmstown.
July 27 - I said, "Yes," to Williamstown.
July 28-30 - Relaxed for a bit in the City.  Actually "lived" in my new apartment for a few days.
July 31 - Trained up to Williamstown.  Started rehearsals that afternoon.

...And that brings us to today.

Whew!

I'm up here for three weeks working on a new musical.  It's a workshop situation, and it's part of a new program that Roger Rees instituted this year called leapFROG.  Check out wtfestival.org for particulars.  -And after this week, on official press release about the project I'm working on should be coming out.  -Yeah!  My name in the papers again!  ;)

So... That's what I've been up to.

;)

DR PennyO - You've been on my mind lately and I hope now you're being very good to yourself.  In 1984, my husband and I went through the "2 funerals in a week" trauma, when we lost both our fathers.  It takes a lot out of you emotionally and I'm glad you have a place to be that gives you so much comfort.

I think it's an absolute crime that "The Color Purple" didn't win any Oscars. It's a magnificent film - it deserved some recognition.

I disliked The Color Purple during its initial release (mostly due to what I then perceived as a lack of a performance from Whoopi), but it's a film that I've become very fond of over the years.  That ending is a real sob fest.

Someday, I shall share with y'all my idea for a sequel:  The Color Purple Goes Hawaiian.

Glad to see PennyO is back.  We spoke whilst she was here, but it was too crazy to try and get together.  Glad to see vixmom is back, too.  A  nice way to start a new month.

Just got my second blurb, from Rupert Holmes, which I'll share with you on the 'morrow.  You don't have to IGNORE talking about blurb one, just the plot.
