TCB:  So no one listening to you converse would truly know whether you were saying:

"Merry me!"

"Marry me!"

or

"Mary...ME!!"

Is that what you're telling us????

MattH - yesterday (or Sunday) after your post about your Mom getting you the A Star Is Born LP, I had to find mine.  It is somewhat the worse for wear, the edges of the box are all broken, but I noticed some pink ribbons that I don't remember the purpose of.  Does/did yours have a couple of pink silk ribbons on the lid?  And there is a bright pink piece of cardboard inside and a very nice booklet!

I love my CD, but I really like this album.  I have stereo-reprocessed LP also, but I don't think it sounds as good.

Yes, mine had the pink silk ties, and I think they held the hot pink cardboard and booklet into the box (or at least the cardboard). My box is still in fairly good condition, but, my god, it IS almost fifty years old! Wow!

DR JRand, did your stereo reprocessed LP have Judy looking wonderful sitting on a stool? I LOVE that photo of her.

One Quick Post!

I am jealous of BK. Cowboys are sexy. Not the football team, of course. I detest those Cowboys.

I am having an EXCELLENT hair day and I am LOVING it. "Oh Happy Day!"

And that was quick, I hope.

Here's that Judy picture DR JRand and I are talking about. I've never seen this posed shot used in any other situation except on the cover of that STAR IS BORN soundtrack LP. She's in costume from the movie's first musical number "Gotta Have Me Go with You."

If the picture looks a little rippled, it's because I scanned it with the shrink wrap still on the cover.

Thanks to Ben and Jane for their early birthday wishes. :)

Today was a tough one at work. I was on the verge of quitting, and this time I really meant to. Either I'll be quitting or they'll be letting me go...one or the other...but I have the feeling it might happen in the not-so-distant future. And this time it wasn't even Dragon Lady! Apparently, one day as I was receiving (as I am wont to do as a receptionist), I leaned on the armrest of my chair and had a short conversation with my fellow receptionist. Apparently, the boss saw me, and because of that incident, he apparently feels that we don't have enough work to do at the reception desk, so the boss and the office manager ("Fussbudget" we call him) had a meeting with the other two receptionists this morning, telling them that they are to cease and desist all conversation and keep physically busy for their entire 8 hour shifts, even if there is nothing left to do. Just keep looking busy--no matter what. Did they tell me? No. Did they have the guts to tell me that I had apparently done something wrong by conversing with my co-worker? No.

I have no problem with admitting a wrong-doing. If I was in the wrong, I was in the wrong and I'll not do that doing again, but at least have the respect to include me in meetings that involve me...have the respect to tell me that I made a mistake...let me know that I messed up so that I won't do it again! Have either the boss or the office manager said anything to me yet? No. I was LIVID, dear readers, when I went on my lunch break. Rather than take a half hour, I took a full hour and I have no shame in that. I had to call my father to calm me down, which he failed to do, though I do love him for trying, and now when I'm in the office I feel like I'm being followed and spied on. What kind of work environment doesn't permit you to speak to each other? Especially when you're done with your work! It'd be one thing if we were just shootin' the breeze and being lazy... I've worked hard for them for nearly a year, and up until about two months ago, I never felt out of place or unwanted, but if I have to listen to the office manager say "Well, you're (just) a temp" one more time!!! Maybe he doesn't realize it, but it's de-humanizing to say that to someone, even if it's true. Were it not for another person in the office celebrating her birthday tomorrow, we would not be observing my natal day at all because, as the office manager pointed out to me, I'm just a temp and temps don't get birthday celebrations. I'm pissed, I'm hurt and I'm frustrated, and I thank you all for allowing me to vent.

Ms. Ellen Burstyn's show, STORIES FROM THE OLDEST CONFEDERATE WIDOW, or whatever it was called, has closed officially after opening last night. Wow.

MATTH - thanks so much for posting that picture.  No, I have never seen it anyplace else, that is why I stood in line at a KMart many years ago to buy that darn LP!  And I love that scene when the orchestra is rushed onto the bandstand because they have to go on when Norman Maine is bumped....and the bandstand rolls out....what a neat scene.  Really nothing to compare with it in Ms Streisand's remake.

Word at THAT time was that Barbra had approached Mr Elvis Presley to co-star with her but his advisors told him not to do it.  THAT would have been a terrific show!

DR Jason -

[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~[/move]

Here are some vibes for you.  I am feeling your pain, because I am going through something so similar in my community theatre group where I have been a board member for 21 years!

It's not that they can't do it without me, but it's a lot easier if I'm around.  And it doesn't take that much to make me happy!

HollyLynn!  Thanks for responding!

Jason:  Temps have rights -- and their rights are protected under EOE acts, etc.  You should directly confront your supervisor about this untoward conduct on saying you are "just a temp" -- they obviously NEED temps in their workplace or you wouldn't be there!

File a workplace grievance, be calm and courteous, explain what you learned about the directive to the other two receptionists, state flatly that you'd never in any way been told it was wrong to speak with your co-workers under the conditions you described, and that you are considering legal action for the discomfort they've caused you.  Even if they let you go, you can take legal action.

Ha! Legal action. The CEO of MTI is one of the most successful entertainment lawyers of the last 25 years. I don't think legal action would phase them, but thanks for the tip...I agree. I have rights.

Jason:  Is the CEO the "boss" who saw you?

Lawyers are some of the WORST law breakers around!

Truly!  They think they know everything, rarely check anything before sticking their feet in their collective mouths, and then double-talk their way out of as much trouble as they can.

They are also the worst clients in the world for other lawyers!

Ron: I'm not sure if the CEO saw me or the "boss" saw me...either way, I wouldn't dare go up against this guy's company in court. He could squash me like a bug with his money alone, not to mention the precarious position I'd be putting myself in professionally. He has a lot of influence in the entertainment business. I wouldn't want to shoot myself in the foot...

Sorry, Jason, about the workplace problems. My last five years of teaching, we got a principal whom I detested. He had no balls, and his most irritating habit was to assemble the entire faculty and bawl us out because of something one or two teachers (who went nameless) were doing. We could have been spared endless meetings and fussings (which quite destroyed morale around the school)  if he had just had the nerve to confront the guilty parties and ask them to stop whatever it was that was bugging him. And, of course, some of the times I knew who was doing the stuff he was fussing about, but those people had NO CLUE he was talking about them and went right on doing what they were doing until one of us told them to stop. General corrections never work, even with professionals.

Certainly you were owed the courtesy of a correction if you had been doing wrong and naturally, there should be a list of correct office behavior so you wouldn't make the mistake in the first place. But supervisors never see it as their error.
