It's past "warmish" here. Already in the 80s before noon, and the humidity made getting the newspaper this morning and my mail a minute ago a miserable (if brief) experience.

Yes, I got my Shirley Temple movies, so I have some decisions to make.

Matthew (and other Aspects of Love fans), a program note for you.

As I've said many times I listen to the BBC a lot! One of the programs features Elaine Paige playing music from theatre and film. Each week she features what she calls an "essential musical" On Sunday September 4th she will be featuring Aspects of Love.

Here is the link to the program.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/paige/

You can go there Sunday or any time after that (for one week through Sunday September 11th) and listen to the program via the Internet. You need Real Player on your computer. Click on Listen Again to This Show and the player will open, the program will load and voila, you can have your Aspects fix. You can listen to the show this week (which features duets) if you like to see how the whole thing works.

As Stuart said, just doing my part  ;D

ASPECTS OF LOVE an essential musical?

Well, it's essential that I find something else to listen to!  ;D

I think I will stick to my original plan and watch DARLING today. (And LITTLE MISS BROADWAY if there is time before VERONICA MARS tonight).

Am having HHW.com-specific problems again...sluggishness and sudden droppings-out leaving me with either a blank screen or an error page.

It probably has to do with my server.

And I've had such a swift morning. I got up around 7:30 and read the newspaper as usual. But with no book yet selected, I read this week's ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY instead this morning. Must have gotten bogged down in it because it was almost 9:30 before I knew it.

Amazing how some mornings drag by and others fly.

Question for bk - On the Laurie Beechman sing Andrew Lloyd Webber CD, her duet partner (which I found out later is Davis Gaines) goes un-credited on the CD jacket and I believe inside also, was this on purpose?

Wow, it's raining pretty hard here.  Hopefully there will be no floods on the expressways.  They were predicting 50-70mm of rain (i have never seen it predict more than 15mm so this is a lot).

Btw, for those Big Brother fans, not much new on last night's show.  But they didn't even show the one nice thing that April did.  She went to tell James before the veto meeting that she was going to nominate him.

I know they couldn't show this (because then the viewers wouldn't be shocked). But i wish they could have found a way to include it.  Also, I was surprised that they didn't really show that maggie/april were thinking about going back on their promise (to janelle/howie). They showed them say "trust me", but then didn't show when they were deciding whether to break their word.  I really don't think that at this point any of the fans will like the Friendship more, so why bother with this kind editing.

I agree, Ivette looked like a poor sport. Although i'm wondering if we were supposed to have sympathy for her.  I think on its own, i might have felt sorry for her.  But not after the crap she has pulled.

Good gravy! Looking at the list of DVDs for next week. I will be in the PO' HOUSE!

The Garbo Collection - cheaper to buy the whole box rather than the five I want from the box (and the box contains GRAND HOTEL already released as a single; I HATE it when Warners does this).

ROCKY & BULLWINKLE Season 3.

THE STING and TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD in those Legacy Editions.

Argh!

Question for DR RonP, Cillaliz, Mbarnum or anyone else still watching Big Brother.

What do you think Ivette should do? re: voting

What do you think Janelle whould do?

To me if Ivette keeps james it would be good (because he is strong and would take out maggie/april while keeping Iv safe. However, she would maybe lose her Friendship votes and betray her friends.  But would it take her farther in the game?

As for Janelle, I do not think she would betray howie.  But i wonder if her and james would have a better chance to get to the end. I don't see her trusting james though. Since he is also partnered with Iv.  But it would be interesting to see James/Janelle screw over the others and get to the end.

BB6:

To answer Jennifer's questions:

I think Maggie made it perfectly clear to her in the footage we saw on last night's show that any support of James by her would be seen as betrayal of the friendship.

Janelle would not get anywhere with James.  James is out for himself only.  I think he'd betray Ivette to save Janelle because he believes he is the lesser of two evils in the eyes of the voting jury.

Janelle would no more vote against Howie than she would dye her hair blue.  James is finished.  Done.  Toast.  He's flailing about and making statements that have no grounding in possibility.  Beau will not vote to evict Howie and Janelle won't, either.  Ivette is the only person in the house who would vote to save him.

If James survives the vote this week, he WILL get to the end.  But Janelle won't.  He must continue to nourish his alliance with Ivette and Ivette wants Janelle gone, as does April and as does Maggie.  That's a whole lot of people wanting her gone.  They'd rather Howie get to the end than Janelle.

I have a simple question to dear BK at the end of August and the beginning of September.
Have you ever composed songs not for any plays or any theaters, just songs?  If you say YES, when you feel like composing songs (just like setting about writing), do you do it at(with?) the piano? ?When you create songs, lyrics are always followed melodies? Or just some melodies pop into your mind or just lyrics across your mind, separately?

I tend not to write "just songs" so much these days, but I used to do it quite often.  The song "Simply" which I used in What If, and which I put in the stage version of Nudie Musical, was really written just as a song three years ago, and I'm writing this little thing for Caitlynne.  I tend to do both music and lyrics at the same time, but frequently I'll be noodling at the piano and I'll come up with some tune or chord progression and it will all happen very fast after that.

I haven't looked at the packaging since we did the album, but my memory is that Davis was credited somewhere, and I can't imagine why he wouldn't be on the inlay card with the song list.  And since that album had many printings, I can't imagine that if he were left off that it wouldn't have been fixed.  Is yours on Varese?

I woke up at 4:45 because some stupid squirrel was scratching on the roof, and when I came in here to log on, haineshisway.com was completely down.  However, I see posts made at 5:15 - did no one have a prob?  I wrote our host immediately so maybe they fixed it quickly, or maybe it was just a hiccup.  Of course, heaven forbid if our host should actually respond to an e-mail and say "Problem fixed" or "It was just a hiccup, sorry" or even acknowledge having received the e-mail.  That, apparently, is too much to hope for.

Have we achieved our new plateau?

Hmmm...come to think of it, I did start a new nasal spray last night (a nasal "dilator" is what my doctor called it).  It's called Atrovert, and it contains the same medication that is in my inhaler (the medicine that opens the bronchial passages).

:D

Maybe...just maybe...THAT's what got into me.

Oh!   My!   Gosh!

I took a couple more hits this morning.

"Hello! Lamp Post!  What ya knowin'?
Maybe got a dream worth growin'!
Trippin' down the cobblestones...
Life I love ya, Feelin' Groovy!"

(apologies for any lyrical mishaps above...it's all I remember of the song).
