Oy, the A&E Bio on Frances must have aired again yesterday.  I have a new bunch of fauning acolytes' emails to wade through.  ;)

The only thing about cellphones that bugs me is very similar to BK--people just seem to not be able to go without them for a second.  Some of you may remember my post about the lunatic up in the Tetons who was screaming into her cellphone for the simple reason that she could--she was amazed she had service.  Plus it irritates me no end to see people fire up their cellphones at the same time they're starting their cars.  It's somehow de rigeur now to talk whilst driving.

OTOH, I feel safer having my cellphone with me in the car in case of emergencies, though on our recent trip through the backwoods of many a western state, we were frequently without service.

Weird email about Frances of the day:

Subject line of said email:  "Percy Faith."

Hmmmm......

(the writer had seen my personal webpage which also talks about Percy, with links to my Frances stuff.  Can't wait to see what he makes of the pic and Afikomen of BK).  ;)

Congrats DR Jose!  So when can you tell us which show?

(or is it the one you hinted at yesterday?)

DRStuart, is it possible that you, too, are thinking about a trek to the City in October?  That would be fantastic!

DR Elmoore:

Would that I could.  I was curious, because somewhere along the line I think you were planning on doing your "I'm eating my way through the Big Apple" tour on either the 5th or 6th.  Is that true?

If so, I caution you about not wasting too much time trying to get to too many places on the Lower East Side (or even some on the Upper West Side), since those two days are Rosh Hashanah, and many of the proprietors of LES shoppes will probably be closed for at least one of the two days (and may even close early on Tuesday).

It would, to use a phrase someone recently said to me, like being in Paris on Yom Kippur.  (ie: Not being able to take advantage of the marvelous French food on a fast day.)

That was why I asked.  Dat's all.

The Mozart Requiem ended, so I put on the new recording of Bernstein's PETER PAN score, which drives me mad with its bad research and scholarship:  a women's chorus instead of a duet for two Mermaids, an unfunny Captain Hook (which is probably right, but there's no menace either), and too sketchy information on this "edition."  That said,  I love the music, Linda Eder's quite charming, and I feel it's a great send off to Neverland for Derek.

DR elmore - I was hoping the very same thing when I read DR Stuart's question!  And, in response to your request for our trip details, I'll email you mine from home over the weekend, OK?

DR Jose - Thanks for sharing your FABULOUS spring employment news!  Should I start planning my early 2006 NYC trip yet?  Oh, and you've gone back to my favorite of your avatars!

I'm up, I'm up.

Of course, Dennis Clancy - he was a lovely fellow and, if memory serves, he won a trivia contest or two.

I got a good night's sleep, which I needed.

Awaiting a call from my webdesigner, who is about to start work on the Rewind site.

Aren't there establishments operated by straight women that would be open?

So sorry to hear about DR OzDerek.  Seemed a truly good guy.

I have been a proponent of Organ Donation for years, Vixdad and Vixgrandma & Vixgrandpa and I are all listed as organ donors on on driver's licenses.

Me too.  Had it put on there as soon as I legally could do so.

I think I may well be the only person left between the ages of 18 and 35 without a cell phone.

I know that they can certainly be convienent and I've even called my friends on their cell phones to finalize plans, etc. but as BK said, we got along just fine without them for eons.

I don't understand the need to be connected every minute of your waking day. I appreciate the technology and realize the benefits but come on. Whatever happened to books or plain face to face conversation or taking a walk with a friend (leaving your cell phone at home). Those of us who haven't joined the cell phone revolution are now deigned by many to be curmudgeons because we don't want to stand in an elevator and hear about weekend plans. Or WE are told to lower our voices because WE are intruding on a phone conversation in a PUBLIC PLACE!!! I have to stop now or my rant will go on and on.
I couldn't say it any better than Ben already did, so why even try?

It's very sad to hear about anyone's death, but someone that I knew, even just on-line, is especially hard. :'(

Oh, dear.  The pressing plant still hasn't received the Harvey Schmidt booklets, which are just taking forever to complete (it's a twenty page full-color booklet).  She says it definitely won't be noon, but that it still might be early afternoon, say two or three, which means I could still get them out today, or some of them anyway.  If it's later than that, then they'll go out tomorrow.  If they really screw up and don't get the print there until very late, then I'm afraid it will be Tuesday, still a week before street date.  I'll definitely have Kevin and Stages today, though, so anyone who ordered single copies will get shipped today or tomorrow for sure.  It's just very very annoying.

And back to cellphones for a sec...

Well, if I had not picked up my cell phone this morning - and I happened to be receiving a call from a cell phone - I would not have been able to have been offered and to accept(!) an amazing job!  Let's just say my Spring is now set, and that it will be spent here in New York City in the pit of a Broadway show!

Needless to say, I am VERY happy right now.

:D

CONGRATULATIONS!!  Let us know what show as soon as you can!

Happy birthday to Ron P.

Without your encouragement and example, I might never have made the push to become a Senior Member by the end of August, and I thank you for that.

With some pluck and tenacity, you can achieve Godhood by the end of September, at least!!!
