TOD 1:

In fourth grade, it was Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys.
In fifth grade, it was all about Agatha Christie 's finest and Perry Mason.

I somehow managed to get in trouble at school for all of the above. The fourth grade teacher hated mysteries and forbade us from taking them out at any point in the classroom. The Perry Mason covers were too risque for a Lutheran school.

I didn’t read detective novels again until college. I fell in love with Raymond Chandler’s Philip Marlowe then, after seeing the film of Farewell, My Lovely. Then Dashiell Hammet’s Sam Spade and Nick and Nora Charles, and Ross Macdonald’s Lew Archer.
