The temperatures are high today and I slept very poorly because of the heat. Annabelle has abandoned me for the cat tree, and Thatch, who sleeps there most of the day, sleeps with me. Lke a faithful dog, Stella sleeps on the floor beside the bed. At the moment, Annabelle sleeps next to me on the teacart, which she has claimed as her own.

BK - Hmm, very interesting Randy Vicar link in today's Notes.

Maybe it can be taken as a further sign that HHW is on its way to becoming the most popular site on the internet.

I love steak.  I have occasionally been to some high end restaurants where I was treated to some lovely filet mignon (always medium rare).

I rarely want anything on my steak but some salt, but the occasional Bernaise  sauce or a sherry wine sauce is ok, but I generally prefer to let the meat flavor shine on its own.

The sirloin at Texas Roadhouse is always very good, they have their own secret season which is nice, medium rare is the way to go.

Back in the seventies, there used to be a place out here ( perhaps it was a chain, but I only ever knew the one here) called Beefsteak Charlie’s where my then boyfriend and I would often go for dinner dates.

It was perfect for young people on a budget, all the beer, sangria or soda you could drink, served in pitchers, free salad bar and delicious prime ribs.

They weren’t expensive which no doubt is how they went out of business.

About the production BK described in today's Notes:

We've seen with licensing productions - On the one hand, it's very satisfying to see the work getting out into the world, getting done in theaters where we as the writers are not taking part in the production; but on the other hand, the productions that are licensed do tend to get reviewed and those reviews of course come up on the net when people google the show with our names.

So it's a great joy that artists and theaters outside NYC are doing the show, but there's always a risk - Reviews of those productions, from great to not as great, appear with the reviewer never having seen the show before the production they wrote about.

BK, the fourth musician for Desperate Measures was a bass player. The original musical director was the show's orchestrator, and he's very talented. I would guess he had a lot to say to the guitar-mandolin-banjo player about what he wanted.

Loved Desperate Measures, and I said right there that I'd enjoy doing it someday and putting together that small band. The music was colorful and supremely entertaining. And of course so was the cast.

TOD

I love many kinds of steak, and I order medium rare. I can sometimes forgive if it's slightly overdone (depends on the type of steak), but I'm not one who goes for bloody. I think I've been compelled to send one back only a couple of times, though, so those must have been pretty rare.

Oddly, though, I have had steak tartare a few times, and loved it each time. Go figure. It's a different thing.

Edit:  But no raw egg yolks, please. (Sometimes tartare will be served with one.) Just sayin'.

I loved the Randy Vicar song in the notes.

Thanks to DR VIXMOM for the link to the Desperate Measures cast album.

I laid down last night waiting to watch a show that was coming on at 9 p.m. and a basketball game afterwards.....it was about 8 p.m.

I woke up at 4:35 a.m.  I guess I was more tired than I thought.

I often like to have something on the TV to fall asleep to. For that to work best, it needs to be something I'm interested in to some extent, not just any old thing, because actually concentrating on it for a bit will get my brain into the right state for getting sleepy and dozing off.

So last night on TCM there were a few '70s winners:  All the President's Men, The China Syndrome, and Network. I love all the great '70s films of this ilk dearly, so this seemed ideal. I began with the second half of the first movie, and watched the second until I finally starting dropping off during its latter portions. That was already a little bit too late for getting a good sleep before morning, and I made it worse by getting up afterward to visit the necessary, take a drink of water, and adjust the thermostat, all of which completely woke me up. I then stayed awake through quite a bit of the third which went into the wee hours, and with the already-interrupted sleep, I ended up tossing and turning the rest of the night -- which only goes to show that sometimes you just can't win.

In general, I like just the sparest of sauces or flavorings. This assumes that the steak itself is of delicious quality from the start. Some steaks are traditionally prepared with sauces or house flavorings, however, and that's fine. I do not complain. A good piece of meat is a good piece of meat.
