Met a friend this morning for breakfast at a chain called the Black Bear Diner. No surcharge for eggs. Very nice meal.

Good to see Steve. He’s starting radiation today for some skin cancer on his head.

There used to be a Black Bear Diner in Olympia, but it closed quite a few years ago.  Then it became an El Sarape, and now I think it's something else again. :-\

Since I live in Texas, no discussion of steak is complete without mentioning chicken-fried steak. I’m a fan of hammering it thin and breading it before frying it up. But I always want the cream gravy on the side until I determine if it’s handmade. Store-bought or mix gravy is too boring and flat to eat much of it. I would never order it at a chain place like Cracker Barrel.

Topic of the Day:  I don't care for steaks at all, except for chicken fried steak.  I do like those. :)

So glad to see that Amazon Fresh was able to include a dozen eggs in our order today, after all.  The selection of eggs had been very limited, but nice to have a dozen on hand here in our fridge.

Also on the egg front:  We also got a few of the frozen, easy to microwave, breakfast sandwiches which include eggs on the sandwich.  (Simple thaw, then microwave on high 50 seconds, let stand a minute - and viola, it's a real egg!). The eggs seem to be the real thing, not just some fake egg product, so we'll have those while that option is still there.

I forgot to mention on here that our friends Bill Parry and Maureen Silliman, who started dating since 1991, and met during Skip's show BLANCO! at Goodspeed summer of 1990, got married over the weekend.

It was a beautiful ceremony, and Skip did the piano playing for the service, and also did a lovely vocal solo.  (We were given some of the leftovers from the wedding eats and I just recently finished having the wedding leftovers, so I was reminded that I hadn't mentioned the wedding here yet.)

BK, of course, has performed with Maureen in our NYMF reading of LAST STARFIGHTER in 2006 - the year before both BRAIN FROM PLANET X and LAST STARFIGHTER full productions were in NYMF.  In that reading, BK played the role originally played by Bill in our show LAST STARFIGHTER's world premiere in 2004 and on the Kritzerland original cast album of LAST STARFIGHTER.

I had the strangest dreams last night.  in the first, though it's vague now, I was a librarian working for Donald Trump, who of course was the boss from hell, and I believe I was worrierd that my job was on the line. In the second, I was at a big party for some theatrical event on a high floor in Manhattan. Rebecca Luker and Danny Burstein were there, and Rebecca was behaving very flirtatiously with me, reminding me of my proposal years ago. Victoria Clark was also there, and I was trying to avoid her. At some point, Rebecca and Danny had a disagreement, and she left with Ms Clark. Danny wasdistraught, and he got into an elevator. I got into another, trying to beat him to the ground floor. Then I woke.

We've had so many happy occasions with Bill and Maureen to note over the years.

Maureen was one of the official witnesses at Skip and my wedding in 2014.

And this below was one of my favorite happy occasions - where Bill and Maureen had dropped in on video from NYC and were a happy part of my Dads 100th birthday in Florida, which include Youtube wishes from outside of Florida.

Nat Landau's 100th birthday was Sept 7 2020. Bill & Maureen were at Miami party by "remote" from NYC

Small world and even smaller business all around!  Bill Parry was in the 1996 Old Globe production of Skip's show TIME AND AGAIN, which was where Danny and Rebecca first met (though they started dating a good while after that production.

Skip's show seem to have good karma for some wonderful couples to have met for the first time. Howard McGillin first met his future spouse at a reading of TIME AND AGAIN which was just before the Old Globe production.  And as I mentioned, Bill and Maureen first met at a production of Skip's show BLANCO!

P.S. And it was when BK came to San Diego to see TIME AND AGAIN at the Old Globe where, if I'm remembering correctly BK and Skip first met in person.

I love steak. Carl's Chop House in Detroit was a family favorite for special occasions. Porterhouse is my favorite overall. I also like making steak au poivre, complete with lighting the brandy or bourbon on fire.

Steak au poivre was a favorite back in my L.A. days. I wish I could remember a place where friends who felt the same about it took me, where it was just the best ever. I think it was west of the 405 on the south side of Wilshire, but how far out towards Santa Monica, I have no idea.

I'm almost always up for steak Diane or steak Oscar. Especially if someone else is paying.

I'm pretty sure we have a Black Bear Diner here - over in Reseda - ate there once. Pretty good, as I recall.

Not Reseda, Tarzana, and I didn't recall correctly - here's what I wrote back in 2019:  I got ready and moseyed on over to a jernt called the Black Bear Diner in the heart of Tarzana, although I’m not sure Tarzana has a heart.  This was formerly a Coco’s – now it’s another chain, the Black Bear Diner, which I’ve never heard of.  The menu was promising, but sometimes reality is different.  I got the “light” version of the chicken fried steak (five ounces instead of ten, and only 600 calories).  There was something in the gravy, some spice, that just wasn’t to my liking.  Still, I ate it up along with some of the redskin mashed potatoes, and a couple of bites of salad, as I also didn’t care for their bacon ranch dressing – everyone needs to leave bacon out of ranch dressing – that’s simply not done, not in civilized society.
