Well, you've read the notes, you know the routine, the routine knows you, and now it is time for you to post until the routine cows come home - they're out mooing "Sister Clodagh, Sister Clodagh."

And for those who need and/or desire a topic, what are your favorite one-of-a-kind films, those one-off films that you treasure.  I'll start with The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T - there has never been anything like it, before or since.

BLACK NARCISSUS is on TCM again this weekend and I think I will watch it again.  It won't be glorious to look at, but it will be interesting to see again.

One-of films.  Hmmmm.

5,000 Fingers to be sure.

The Red Shoes.

Still unemployed, so I will not be able to order REWIND.  But it will be on my list to get with my first paycheck - whenever that may be.

I watched "Carousel" for the first time on DVD and really enjoyed it. BUT, I have to admit that I’ve never known that Shirley Jones was a leading actress in it, and in addition, I didn’t entirely noticed THAT until I read the description on the back of the DVD package after the film. She was lovely and looked quite different from The Partridge’s mom. I could recognize her by only her eyes. ( I know she's still lovely in the photo from the Courts show which DR MBarnum posted before)

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up...

Hmm... And just where is DR Ben?

And I'm guessing DR elmore will be back to be normal -well, at least back in New York City - tomorrow morning and posting before I'm even out of bed.

Hi, DR Michael S!  Hope you (and your back) is feeling better this morning.

Ask BK...

Have you ever wanted to see one of your musicals translated into another language?  If so, which show and which language/country (if you have a preference)?

And out of your current stock of OCRs in other languages, any favorites?

OH... Another Ask BK...

If - and this is a BIG IF - you were in a movie musical, and the studio decided to bring in someone to dub your voice (for whatever fershluganah reason), who would you most like them to bring in (to sound like)?

As you may know, the fall is the time the bears are getting ready for hiberantion.  For any one planning on going hiking in the woods to see the glorious colors (colours for you Canadians and Austrailians amongst us) of  the  changing leaves here is an important  safety reminder:

Quote
“When hiking in the woods wear noisy little bells to alert bears to your presence and carry pepper spray. Be on the lookout for bear tracks and feces. Black bear feces are small, contain lots of berries, and, occasionally, squirrel fur. Grizzly bear droppings are large, have little bells in it, and smell like pepper.”

Good morning, all!  The terminals at the public library are very slow this morning.

First of all, I need all your vibes for the trip back to Manhattan this afternoon; I've felt very strange about this whole trek over the past week, although my week has been quite wonderful.

I was pleased with the Miami University session yesterday:  I spoke to about 12 students in music or theatre and 3 faculty; the chairman of the dept introduced me and told the students a bit about my work, then I spoke for about 15 minutes on what I'd done - both the good and the bad - since I got my M.A.
The last hour was questions, and I wish now that I'd asked the students questions instead of their asking me.

DRMBarnum, since I know Brian D'Arcy James, I will go with you to the play.  You'll have an easier time meeting him if I can get us backstage.

Last night's THE AMAZING RACE thoughts:

I kind of liked last night's episode because it put the other races into a new perspective for me.  The fact that the teams were directed to drive from NYC to Washington's Crossing--not exactly a simple Sunday drive--gave me an appreciation of how former participants had to do similar drives in foreign lands (with a language barrier to boot.)  And I thought it was really cool that they were next directed to Belmont Plateau (home of the first Earth Day) here in Philly, mere walking distance from where I live.

Teamwise, except for a few obvious cases, they all pretty much blended into each other and were hard to tell apart.  Unlike DR JRrand, I didn't find the kiddies as bratty as I expected them to be (and I did expect them to be bratty after those intros!), but that could change as they begin to focus more on each family.  I guess the team I like the best so far is the three brothers and their sister--I liked their energy and enthusiasm.  But I'm not holding out much hope for them in the long run--they've already confessed that they have more brawn than brains and they sort of showed last night that their brawn runs to empty awfully fast.  As for the team I like the least--yeesh!--do I even have to say who they are?  What a despicable bunch!  Like I said yesterday--future Dr. Phil guests.

Here's a problem I think I'm going to have with this race being set in just America:  unlike in foreign countries, where there is a lot of varied types of public transportation, I see the contestant families spending a lot of time in SUVs driving from point to point.  The constant driving and the claustrophobic camera views inside the vehicles was the dullest part of the show last night, and I see a lot more of that coming up.  That is, if I stick with it.

Good morning!

A decidedly cooler morning here and the first walk I've really enjoyed in about two weeks. And tomorrow is supposed to be the start of real fall weather for us with lows in the high 50s. But I've read that before, so we'll see.

Last night, DR Jrand wrote:  "DR MATTH I must have missed the post...what did you think of HOUSE AT THE END OF THE WORLD?"

I enjoyed A HOME AT THE END OF THE WORLD very much, and naturally fell deeply in love with Colin Farrell's character. When the movie ended, I was disapppinted because I wanted it to continue with the lives of the two guys. I know stories don't always tie plots up into neat little parcels, but I didn't think even gave a clue as to how it was going to continue, so it felt incomplete to me.

DR MBARNUM the only "scary" movie my Dollar Store had was House on Haunted Hill/The Bat which I already have.  Some new cartoons but no other new live action DVD's.  They must keep all the good ones in Oregon.

I have THE BAT/HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, too. At least they're both letterboxed! I read a review of MGM's latest release of HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, and they used a full screen transfer.
