We had a good show last night!  It was the Pay-What-You-Can night, and while we didn't have a large crowd, it also wasn't the smallest.  However, they thoroughly enjoyed the show!  We had a few bigger laughs than any previous night, so that's good.  Only three shows left, then I'll be dedicated to Into the Woods!

George, it's great to hear how much the audience enjoyed the show!

Thanks, Freddie!

Jesse Green's New York Times review of SMASH on Broadway is an out-and-out rave.

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/04/10/theater/review-smash-musical.html
"Review: In a Musical Comedy Makeover, ‘Smash’ Lives Up to Its Name
En route to Broadway, the TV series about backstage shenanigans and Marilyn Monroe has been rejiggered, with the same great songs but a whole new plot."

That's great!

Other reviews were far less kind.

Oh...that's not great. :-\

Lemon Pickers Needed (recent newspaper ad)

Sally Mulligan of Coral Springs , Florida, read it. She decided to apply for one of the jobs that most Americans are not willing to do. She submitted her application for a job in a Florida lemon grove, but seemed far too qualified for the job. She has a liberal arts degree from the University of Michigan, and a master’s degree from Michigan State University. For several years, she had worked as a social worker, and also as a counsellor.

The foreman studied her application, frowned, and said, "I see you are well educated, and have an impressive resume. However, I must ask, have you had any actual experience in picking lemons?”

"Well, as a matter of fact, I have," she said..."I've been divorced three times, owned two Chryslers, and voted for Trump.”

I finished the laundry, played with the cats, fed them and myself, and now it's time to cleanup the mess.

Back - from a MUCH better voice lesson. A world of difference from a week ago when she didn't know everything quite as well and was being rather timid in her singing. This was much more satisfying, and now I can better look forward to seeing how the recital goes.

There's one thing her voice teacher has a bizarre attitude about, and that's teaching the student to give a CLUE to an accompanist, or God forbid if it were a conductor, as to when she's about to start singing something that follows a silence. I was saying how we listen for a breath or watch for body language that tells us when that entrance is coming, but it seemed like the teacher was saying how they teach "silent breaths" or some such... which literally provides no clue as when the next word or note is going to come out of the person's pie hole. Fortunately, in this set of songs there are only two or three places where we need to attack something together. And only one in particular will bug my ASS if we fail at that, but I can't go up against what someone's teacher is instilling in them. Bizarre.

It has been posited by those who have seen Smash that Jesse Green has lost his marbles.
