Well, I'm up, and I'm up because I may be getting a FedEx package this morning.  At least I hope so.  The production office said they were shipping something, but I did not receive a call back nor an e-mail with the confirmation or tracking info like they normally do.  So...  If it is due in today, it should be here by 10:00.   In the meantime, I'm gonna see if I still have the cell phone number for the company manager.

But I'm up.  And I was up before 9:00.  On a Saturday!

DR FJL and others - The dinner on Wednesday will be at:

La Cocina
217 W 85th Street (between Broadway & Amsterdam)
Start time: 8:00-ish

We will most likely be downstairs.

*Anyone up for lunch at Artie's on Monday? ;)
-When I checked in with Artie's, I got a distinct vibe that they would be very busy next Wednesday night due to post-Rosh Hoshanah dining, and that they weren't too keen on parties possibly lingering - which is understandable.  However, I still like their latkes and pastrami.  :)

And for those DRs and lurkers who would like to head to Splash on Monday night...  I guess we could all meet at 8:00, post-Barrymore's, around Barrymore's.  Otherwise, see you down there around 8:30.  Phone calls will be made, e-mails will be sent.

DRMBarnum just called; he's on the bus terrorizing pasengers with photos of saggy ageing gladiators and Bollywood memorabilia.  Their background cries for mercy were pitiful.

Well, now that I'm invited...  ;)

I may be working on Monday, and if I do, I'll need to head back to my apartment before heading down to Splash.  We shall see...

Can one just show up at Barrymore's if one can make it, or does a reservation have to be made with a  specific number of people?

Looks like my family may not be doing any Rosh Hashanah festivities on Monday night, so by my modified-religious views, I may mentally put off the start of the religious part of the holiday until Tuesday morning.  :)

Hmm...This week's trivia question seems so straightforward, and I feel like it's something I should know off the top of my head, but I can't get all the parts to work out.

Oh good, New York 1's Onstage has brought back its weekly "Scene and Heard" segment.  It was much missed.

I believe DR elmore will be taking care of the reservations for Barrymore's on Monday night.  I'm sure we'll have room for any impromptu visitors.

Same here.  I thought I would go ahead and take a stab at it too, but none of my leads are panning out.

Good morning!

Not as cool this morning as it was yesterday morning, but still glorious compared to the temps of a weeks ago. I noticed in the five day forecast that the temps are going to begin crepping back up into the low 80s over the next few days, but the nights are supposed to stay cool, so maybe it will be bearable until the true fall weather gets here.

My walk went just fine this morning, BTW.

This will give the Fan Conventions a needed PR boost:

Quote
O.J. Signs Autographs at Horror Convention
By LINDA DEUTSCH
AP Special Correspondent

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A decade after he was acquitted of killing his ex-wife and her friend, O.J. Simpson was back in Los Angeles autographing sports memorabilia for people attending a horror movie convention.

Simpson's appearance Friday night was a private affair in which he was presented with items sent in by collectors who paid in advance for his signature.
Fans who prepaid $95 a ticket to enter the convention later in the weekend will have the opportunity to buy memorabilia and also get Simpson's signature, as well as buy souvenirs of horror films and comic books.

Since the Associated Press Story fails to identify the convention, I guess we can't blame the organizers for planting the story.

I have been wary of ALIAS' fate ever since Garner's pregnancy was announced at the end of last season. Then this summer, it was revealed that a new "recruit" would be trained under Sydney's guidance this season, and I knew that ALIAS was not going to be the same.

Doesn't mean that I will stop watching it as I won't know if it's better or worse unless I do. I also still very much enjoy the work of Victor Garber and Kevin Weisman.

But the glory days of those first two seasons are admittedly gone.

Great! I get up early (when I'm not working on Saturdays) one of those weekend mornings so I can watch the show (I could tape it but then I would have to find time to watch it). I am not a fan of Time-Warner Cable (it's a long story) but I do think that New York 1 is the best thing this pathetic excuse for a cable provider has come up with and On Stage is an excellent show.

DRFJL, I'm going to call them and tell them 5-15 people will be showing up between 6 & 6:30.

DR Hisaka have a great time hob-knobbing with the stars with the stars.

My favorite odd sayings include:

H-E-double hockey sticks.

If you want that tile laid, do it yourself.

Leopold & Loeb? They wrote Camelot, right?

You are the envy of all who survey you.

Well, DRMBarnum just bought me breakfast and resisted all my efforts to lure him into traffic.  We'll see the view from the roof later.  He's checking out the fire escape.

A wonderful group called Faithful Friends is picking up Rocky today.

I am amazed at what a retired engineer with a camera coupled with a dedicated web-posting/networking lady volunteer can accomplish. None of this would be possible without today's hi-tech tools.

Still no luck with the trivia question, but this one is a great deal of fun, especially the part about one of the cast members having appeared on one of BK's albums.

I am here! I don't think it has hit me yet that I am in New York City...which seems to look a lot like downtown Portland, Oregon...but then I have only had 3 hours of sleep so what do I know.

I landed at JFK...the weather is beautiful!...and took a bus  to Port Authority. The bus driver was nice, but I think he took out a couple of pedestrians and maybe a compact car or two. Then I located DR Elmore on the corner of 8th and 42nd...just a around the corner from Times Square, which the bus driver drove me through (I was the only one on the bus at this point as the other passengers got off at Grand Central). We threw my luggage in the apartment and went over to a little diner on Broadway and had breakfast...I was hungry  and really needed some coffee.

So now here we are. I am gonna try to nap a bit before going to eat lunch. Later tonight we will go see Brian D'Arcy James in PAVILION.

I sleep now.

When you're aiming for a new plateau, doesn't it seem like you'll post sometimes for no reason at all?

:)

Off to lunch at the boat basin.  But trivia question - I shall return.
