New York Times article about John Lithgow's soup commercial.

They can use the word "send up" all they want!  It's badly written, staged and directed.  MAD TV does great send ups.  This is ineptitude to the highest degree.  I has spoke!  I prefer the Serta sheep.

Thanks for the link, DR DtM:  the following quote is ten times funnier than the commercial.

Mr. Lithgow is "someone who represents fine taste, quality, the essence of the brand, but will not be elitist, better than thou or a snob," said Ed Maslow, senior vice president and senior creative director at BBDO New York.

The commercials are appearing on broadcast television series like "Ghost Whisperer," "Medium" and "Two and a Half Men" as well as during cable reruns of shows like "Crossing Jordan," "Law & Order" and "Will & Grace." Print advertisements are to appear in magazines in which Campbell Soup typically advertises, like People, as well as in magazines read by the target audience, like Bon Appétit, Food & Wine, Newsweek, O: The Oprah Magazine and Real Simple.

I think DR ELMORE has hit the railroad spike on the head with a sledgehammer here....somewhat like the commercial.  8)

I guess one major difference would be Stan Freberg is a creative advertising man, and David Lachapelle is a video director with experience at MTV.

And as I said yesterday, Annie Miller seemed to be in on the joke.

I guess I'll have to start watching Will and Grace again. I haven't watched for well over a year. I don't watch the reruns all the time because they seem to get to the bad seasons so quickly. From my perspective the bad seasons began during the Woody Harrelson arc. It all goes downhill from there IMHO.

For my LA friends.

I just received a post card in the mail:

Catch the world premiere of Meet Me In Miami, staring Carlos Ponce, Eduardo Verastegui and Tara Leniston

The Egyptian Theatre
6712 Hollywood Blvd
Hollywood, CA
10/29/2002
7:30 PM

Tickets can be purchased at www.latinofilm.org.

Original Score, Title Song and Additional Featured Song by Misha Segal.  That's the guy who wrote the music from "POTO"--the movie --I liked.

No suprise that I can't make it but I thought maybe some of you in the area might be interested.

I wonder if Carlos Ponce is any relation to Poncie Ponce????

Things were up last season...but this season, thus far, it's grim.

According to Heather MacRae one of the actors tested for the role of Curly in the film version of Oklahoma (I just typed Oklahomo, is that a Freudian slip or what???) was JAMES DEAN. As she said, Cowboy Without a Cause. She said her mother, Sheila, saw the screen test and said he was excellent.

But so true...DR ELMORE....so true....  For a gal from Texas, Annie went a LONG way.

She is resting at Holy Cross Cemetery....just a stone's throw from Miss Allison Hayes & Rosalind Russell.  :'(

I have a two disk DVD at home that contains the all time greatest TV commercials.  I'll have to check to see if Annie's Great American Soup spot is on it.

She was on the old syndicated Mike Douglas Show when it was in first rotation talking about it, and they showed the commercial.  Douglas seemed a bit miffed that his program was being used to air a commercial for FREE!!

We have one of Carlos Ponce's albums.  Really excellent, a major talent - seriously.  (Skip was working on a show - which unfortunately fell apart - and Ponce was being strongly considered for one of the leads.)
